Forums -> Multiple monitors -> 2nd monitor turns off after 4 seconds @ Windows Desktop?

Has anybody experienced this before? I just added a PCI card to my Dell Dimension 3000 with onboard AGP. The second monitor starts up for about 4 seconds, then turns off. This happens every time I make a configuration change in the Display Properties. When the 2nd monitor turns off, the LED is still lit as though it's getting a signal - just that nothing displays. Any ideas? here's the system:

Windows XP Professional XP2

PRIMARY:
Dell Dimension 3000 onboard AGP = Intel 82865G
Monitor = 19" EPI Envision EN-980e
Resolution = 1600x1200

SECONDARY:
Diamond Stealth Radeon 7000 S60 64MB PCI
monitor = Dell E173FP 17" LCD
Resolution = 1280x1024

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what to try next.

Every resolve this? This is happening to me. I have black screens on all but one of my screens (two GeForce 6600GTOC's with two 19" lcds each). I have an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with an AMD X2 4400+ processor.

greg, have you tried stepping down the resolution on the primary down to 1280x to match the secondary? are you running spanned mode or independent mode?

it sounds to me like you're overdriving the 17" because the 17" won't do 1600x.

step the primary down to a lower resolution and then adjust the displays separately.
