Do cards such as the one at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1071556&CatId=880 merely support two monitors that display the same thing, or do they allow different applications to be displayed on separate monitors, in the same manner that two separate video cards would allow?

The desktop will be extended across both monitors, and you'll be able to run different applications on each monitor.
