I haven't used those cards myself, but as far as I know the only difference is the slot type, meaning if you have a free x16 slot, get the x16 version, otherwise you'll need to get the x1 version.
Theoretically the x1 version should have lower performance, but I don't know if that's an issue with real-world applications.

I would think it would help with the badnwidth. Don't want to try and improve on PCI and end up with the same problem.
