I'm using a GeForce 7600 GT pci-e, and a FX5500 pci card to run four monitors with Ultramon 2.7.1
It's great except that when I minimize a program it sometimes disappears. It's happened with Outlook Express and Word, which is not good if I forget to save the file.
At first I thought maybe I'd closed the programs by mistake, so I started watching. I didn't.
Could it have something to do with this being a trial version and not having some of the updates? I searched the forum, couldn't find this information.

If you press ALT+TAB, can you still switch to the minimized application, even though its button on the taskbar is no longer available?

The trial version is identical to the full version except for the 30-day trial period limitation. The latest version is 2.7.1.

No. The window then shows only an open application plus this one, Ultramon. Since I posted the first query on this it has happened again. It seems to happen when I leave the computer for awhile, not when I'm working.

Maybe the application crashed for some reason.

To make sure you get the crash error message, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Error Reporting and make sure that either error reporting or notification of critical errors is enabled.

The problem won't go away. Error reporting is enabled, but I'm not getting any errors. I leave the computer with windows minimized and come back to find one missing. As I said, it usually happens with Word, but not always. If the program had crashed I'd think I'd have more problems than disappearing windows. Anybody got any other ideas?

Looks like the application gets closed for some reason, but if the application closed regularly without crashing it's unlikely that this would be caused by UltraMon.

To check if the application is really no longer running, also take a look at Task Manager > Processes, for example the process for Word is winword.exe.

I still can't find the answer to this problem, and I really want to fix it because now I don't think I can do without Ultramon. I'm not using the Ultramon configuration for my screensaver or wallpaper. I never changed those when I installed Ultramon because they work the same as they did before. I'm running four monitors and the screensaver works on all four, also the wallpaper. Now I'm wondering if not using the Ultramon configuration for these is causing a conflict? When I've got applications open and minimized and the screensaver comes on, and then I move the mouse to go back to work, that's when I lose the applications.

Since I posted earlier I've been trying to get to Ultramon in programs, but the only thing there is a shortcut window. I'm thinking I need to uninstall and re-install, but this is a trial download. Will I be able to re-install or have to pay first? I don't mind paying if it'll work. But I can't keep losing Word apps.

Not using UltraMon to configure screen savers or the wallpaper shouldn't cause any problems.

If it only happens after the screen saver has been running, maybe it's related to the specific screen saver you're using. I would recommend testing if you have the same problem when selecting a standard Windows screen saver such as Beziers under Display Properties > Screen Saver.

You can uninstall UltraMon via Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Reinstalling the UltraMon trial version will work fine.

Thanks, Christian. You're the best. I changed my screensaver to Bezier and haven't had a application disappear since.

Need help. My problem is back. Applications are disappearing when pc is left unattended for a few minutes. This time I narrowed it down to one monitor in my four monitor setup. When I move a new application to it, that disappears. At first I thought it might be Word because that's all I keep on that monitor. But it's not Word. It's anything I put on it. Is there anything else I can check? Thanks.

Did you enable password protection for the screen saver at some time? If yes, disabling it might be worth a try.

With password protection enabled, the screen saver runs on a different desktop, maybe that's what's causing the problem you're seeing.

This is just a wild guess though, I've never seen this issue myself.

No. Password protection has never been enabled on this pc. But I have narrowed the problem down further by disabling the screensaver. Now the applications do not disappear. I want to keep a screensaver, and it seems to me it should work. There must be some conflict somewhere.

I have the same issue; apps closing on return from screensaver. I don't believe I have Ultramon though. I have an older desktop running the most current version of Win XP Pro SP 2 and I'm using the "blank" screensaver. My video card is very old, and I'm only using one monitor.
