I was noticing extremely high CPU utilization from explorer.exe in the resource monitor. It was averaging well over 40% at all times.
I closed Ultramon and explorer.exe is now hovering around 2-3% CPU.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

Might be a conflict with another application which uses hooks, you could run EnumHooks to check for other applications which use hooks.
