I have Ultramon installed, and here's the problem I'm having.
I run Remote Desktop maximized on my secondary monitor. I also have Ultramon's Smart Taskbar enabled. With Ultramon version 2.5, the behavior of the Smart Taskbar is that when I point to the lowest area of the screen, the Smart Taskbar pops up, allowing me to do what I want, then disappears when I move the mouse pointer away.
With the latest version of Ultramon, this doesn't happen, and I can't select any of the tasks on my Smart Taskbar. I have to minimize the entire Remote Desktop to choose whatever task I want, then re-maximize the Remote Desktop window. This is very annoying, and is like a step back for me. Will this be fixed, or is there something wrong I'm doing?
Thanks.

This was changed in 2.6, due to causing problems with some fullscreen applications.
See this thread for information on enabling the old behavior.
Please note that UltraMon 3 will no longer support the old behavior. Let me know if you would be interested in having a different way to bring the taskbar to the top, for example a hotkey or something similar.

How about at least showing it when I press the Windows key? This would be good for us, as the legacy way was ok in its implementation, not perfect though.

Hi,
Please implement the legacy behavior for fullscreen apps options in version 3. Disable it by default and let the user select it using the options. If it won't be implemented I don't know for sure I will to version 3.

I'm in agreement - I would not update to 3.x if it meant losing this ability. It is my main reason for even using UltraMon. We use a lot of Virtual Machines (vm's) at work and I often have several RDP sessions going at once on my secondary display and flip between these and my email app on this display all the time. Being 'stuck' in a maximized RDP window is the whole reason I even looked for a utility and chose to buy UltraMon.

Hi Christian,
It's been this long, and I finally updated to Ultramon 3.0 due to some features I needed, but this issue has come back to bite me.
I really need the Smart Taskbar to be able to show up when doing a full screen RDC.
It would have even been ok if you could include this in the list of actions that I can apply a shortcut key to, but it doesn't seem that you have done this.
Can you help me?
Thanks.

And another thing. What happened to all the options for the Smart Taskbar? If you right click on it, you can choose to auto-hide it, etc.

Christian Studer 2008-04-22 12:45
At the moment that's not supported, but I'm going to look into this for a later release.
The Smart Taskbar now takes most settings from the main taskbar, for example if you autohide the main taskbar, the UltraMon taskbars will autohide as well.

I certainly hope you can implement it sooner than later. For now I've reverted back to 2.7.1.
Thanks!

I'll 2nd the request for bringing this feature back. I have the same exact use case for it. 10 or 12 RDP sessions open on 2nd monitor and I could easily and quickly switch from one to the next without minimizing.

Btw, what's the last version that supports the old behavior?
I have 3.0.5 beta installed with the LegacyFullScreenAppBehavior reg key and it's not working -- should it?

2.7.1, 3.0 no longer supports the old behavior.

Dear Christian, can you please let us know if you are planning to bring this option, in one way or the other, back to Ultramon? If not, how to use Ultramon best with fullscreen remote desktop sessions? Or do I have to go to an alternative for Ultramon? Greetz, WPS (still using 2.7.1)

I'm going to look into this for a later release, but not before 3.0 final.

Good job!
I use remote desktop, too. I actually don't mind the current behavior (losing the taskbar to the remote full screen). Is it possible (future enhancement) to provide a way that the taskbar could be grabbed when needed? If I could slide it out without having to resize the remote, that would be nice. (I'm using version 3.0.7 Beta)

Will be considered for a later release, maybe a hotkey to show the taskbar or something similar.

Hi, Can anyone tell me if the legacy support is back in 3.10? Or can someone tell me how to best use UltraMon 3.x with multiple RDP sessions? Still using 2.7.1... ... and looking for an upgrade...
|
Christian Studer 2011-01-05 08:23
That's not supported in 3.1.0. I'll see if I can add support for this in 3.2.0, which will be mainly about Smart Taskbar features.

Christian,
I've been having a similar problem, but only recently. I'm running version 2.7.1 and have had no problem having the smart taskbar appear on my secondary screen (with virtual desktop maximized) when I click over to my primary screen (my actual desktop).
I just reduced my three-screen configuration to two screens and everything's running fine, except that now the smart taskbar does not pop up when remote desktop is maximized on the secondary screen and I click over to my actual desktop on the primary screen. This problem does not occur when I have the remote desktop maximized on my primary screen, however.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Sean, make sure the UltraMon taskbar is set to be always on top, you can change the setting via right-click on the UltraMon taskbar.

I already have it set to "Always on Top," and I haven't made any other adjustments to the settings since the last time it worked correctly.

I've also already attempted to run LegacyFullScreenAppBehavior, which had no effect.

I'm not sure what else might cause this, do you have the same issue with other fullscreen apps, for example Internet Explorer? To switch IE to fullscreen mode, press F11.
