Forums -> UltraMon™ -> UltraMon 3.0.0 Beta - Issues
AlanC   2007-03-31 19:58
Hi Christian et al,

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 with two side by side monitors (primary is on the right).

Just installed the beta and have a few issues:

1. The taksbar on the left-hand monitor is not the same as that on the right-hand monitor. Rather than being grey at the top and black at the bottom as per the correct Aero Vista display the taskbar is grey with a central draker line running horizontally.

2. When I select a new profile in the Wallpaper pane both 'one background/image for the whole desktop' and 'a different background/image for each monitor' are checked. Clicking in one of them sorts this out but clearly not how you'd wish it to be.

3. The buttons in the Window Title bar do not display correctly. For example, in IE7 and Outlook 2007 they don't show at all. However, in Word 2007 they are not visible until I run the cursor over where they should be and then they are displayed. In most other programs e.g. MS AutoRoute 2006, Adobe Photoshop CS2 the buttons are never displayed though the functionality is there as I can click where I know that they should be and move the application from screen to screen.

Good luck with this. It's still an essential piece of software for dual monitor users and I'm sure you'll have it all sorted when the final version is released.

Regards

...and another one:

4. On boot-up programs that are set to minimize to System Tray rather than the taskbar appear on the Taskbar e.g. MailWasher Pro and Ad-Watch (part of Ad-Aware Plus).

i have found 2 issues too...

1. when i have a blinking window in the taskbar (for example msn with new messages) the taskbar doesn't grow when hidden...

2. for some reason my scrollwheel doesn't work anymore...
Roel   2007-03-31 22:54
The "move window" and "maximize to desktop" buttons don't change to the styles button. They fall over the minimize, maximize and close buttons and have to move them about 50pix. to get them clearly.

The rest that I have seen works great. Keep up the good work.

Greetings,
Roel

I keep getting the following message...

Ultramon Taskbar encountered a fatal error and will exit. This usually hapens when the system is low on memory or other resources, but might also happen for other reasons.

Technical details:

Source file: .\TaskBand.cpp

I also don't see the two extra icons on any window at all, but when I click where they should be they behave as they should.

Thanks
Dave

I'm using vista x64 Ultimate

One of the things that I'd most like this version of ultramon to do is to allow me to specify an image background for one monitor, and a dreamscene one for the other monitor, as windows does not allow this - you must use the same dream on both monitors if you wish to use one at all.
matt   2007-04-01 01:22
When I attempt to minimize an application on the secondary display by clicking on the application in the taskbar it will not minimize. This only happens when when only one application is running on the secondary display or when it is the last application to be minimized. It also only happens when attempting to minimize by clicking on the taskbar, not when you use the minimize button or using the context menu to minimize.
dot_Zen   2007-04-01 01:25
To Roel,

Read the release notes for the beat 3.0.0(Beta 1), which states:

"Support for the window buttons under Aero is planned for beta 2 [Snip..]"

So for now, diable buttons or enable key bindings to the window functionality.

To Most the rest, Have you submitted bug details and system configurations to mailto:support@realtimesoft.com . It will be much easier to sort this issues if the issues are sent there instead of just posted here.

I am also running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 (same as AlanC)with two side by side monitors except my primary is on the left.

I have the following issues:

1. My taskbars are are the same and work correctly.

2. When I select a new profile in the Wallpaper pane both 'one background/image for the whole desktop' and 'a different background/image for each monitor' are checked. Clicking in one of them sorts this out but clearly not how you'd wish it to be.

3. I have the exact same issues as AlanC as follows: "The buttons in the Window Title bar do not display correctly. For example, in IE7 and Outlook 2007 they don't show at all. However, in Word 2007 they are not visible until I run the cursor over where they should be and then they are displayed. However, they do not have the "Aero" look and are moved slightly to the right almost overlapping other buttons.

I must say that this is a better feel and functionality than I experienced with version 2.7.1 on Windows Vista Ultimate 32 (I stopped using Ultramon for this time period, and in the mean time moved to 64 bit Vista Ultimate). I will continue using this beta version forward, and look forward to the refinements coming.

Thanks,

Christian,

First of all, great job and thanks for getting UltraMon Beta 3 out to us! I just downloaded and installed it today, and my initial impressions are quite good. I'm thrilled to see the Smart Taskbar take on the look and feel of the Windows taskbar.

The only real issue I've found is one that existed in UltraMon 2.7.1, and that has to do with applications that stop responding just take a long time with whatever they're doing so that they appear to stop responding.

If this occurs in an application in the main monitor, you don't notice anything. However, if this occurs in an application running in a monitor with the Smart Taskbar, the application's taskbar icon/button will appear in BOTH the main monitor and the secondary monitor--on BOTH taskbars!

In UltraMon 2.7.1, this could be resolved by right-clicking the Smart Taskbar and selecting Refresh, which caused both taskbars to redraw. The Refresh option is no longer available in 3.0.0, so now I must move the offending window to the main monitor and back again.

This was an issue I never saw in XP, so I cannot help but wonder if it's more of the way that Vista handles the way applications' buttons are drawn on the taskbars and it's possible that you may not be able to do much about it.

If it's possible to fix this issue, that would be best. Otherwise, I'd be happy to have the Refresh option back. :)

Matt, while tyhis may not be the absolute solution to your problem, there is an option in Ultramon options/Smart Taskbar menu that may help.

Navigate to the Ultramon option window, select the smart taskbar tab and go to "Process Priority". You can set the smart taskbar to low(default), below normal or Normal. As it states under this option, "If the taskbar seems unresponsive, try increasing the process priority."

To all the rest, make sure to read the release notes for this build before complaining about laking features.

Also note:
"Please note that this release is less mature than UltraMon 2.7.1"

dot_Zen,

Thank you for the tip. I did try this, but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.

The issue is not with whether or not the Smart Taskbar is unresponsive. I have seldom experienced the Smart Taskbar being unresponsive.

The issue is actually tied to an unresponsive/slow application in the monitor where a Smart Taskbar resides...the taskbar button for the offending application will show up in both taskbars (the Smart Taskbar and the main one).

I am unable to resize the smart taskbar as was possible in previous versions.
I prefer a double height main task bar and used to match the the ultramon one the same. but there is no unlock or resize handles on it

Just installed on my PC(XP Pro) and I have a few issues.

1: I am running 4 screens. I like having a taskbar on 2 of the 4 screens. Problem is I can't find an option that lets me turn off the task bar for a particular screen. It's all or nothing for the smart taskbar. This alone forces me to go back to version 2.

2: I use style XP for changing me themes and styles. StyleXP has a transparency option that I like. Trouble is it only works on the main taskbar. I cannot figure out a way to make my smart taskbars transparent. I would like to see a transparency option built right in to UltraMon Smart Taskbar.

On the positive side of things. I really like the option of adding toolbars to any screen I want. I'm also looking forward to being able to use UltraMon on the Vista Aero theme.
Christian Studer   2007-04-01 12:12
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

>>> The taskbar on the left-hand monitor is not the same as that on the right-hand monitor.

I don't see this issue (also on 64-bit Vista), could you send me a screenshot to support@realtimesoft.com?

>>> When I select a new profile in the Wallpaper pane both 'one background/image for the whole desktop' and 'a different background/image for each monitor' are checked.

Will be fixed in the next release. Changing the option will still work fine.

>>> On boot-up programs that are set to minimize to System Tray rather than the taskbar appear on the Taskbar

>>> when i have a blinking window in the taskbar (for example msn with new messages) the taskbar doesn't grow when hidden

>>> When I attempt to minimize an application on the secondary display by clicking on the application in the taskbar it will not minimize. This only happens when when only one application is running on the secondary display ...

>>> Non-responding apps appear on both taskbars

>>> I use style XP for changing me themes and styles. StyleXP has a transparency option that I like ...

I'll look into those issues for the next release.

>>> Ultramon Taskbar encountered a fatal error and will exit, TaskBand.cpp at line 633

Did you notice if this happens when a specific application is on one of the UltraMon taskbars?

This error means that UltraMon failed to update the task button icon for an application on one of its taskbars.

>>> allow me to specify an image background for one monitor, and a dreamscene one for the other monitor

As far as I can tell that's not possible, DreamScene seems to take over wallpaper rendering completely.

>>> I am unable to resize the smart taskbar as was possible in previous versions

UltraMon should pick up the settings from the main taskbar, but this doesn't work correctly in all cases yet.

To resize the UltraMon taskbars if you have the main taskbar locked:

unlock the main taskbar and change the autohide option under Properties. UltraMon will pick up the new settings, and you can now resize the taskbars as usual. Now lock the main taskbar again and restore the original setting for the autohide option.

>>> I am running 4 screens. I like having a taskbar on 2 of the 4 screens

Support for this will be in one of the next releases.

Actually this feature is already partially implemented, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\3.0.0\Smart Taskbar\Taskbars and set the Disabled setting for one of the taskbars to 1. I haven't tested this though and don't know if it works with Beta 1.

Small issue,

32bit Vista (Aero on)

After playing a full screen D3D game (Warcraft III in this case) the smart task bar loses its transparency. Restarting the smart bar fixes it, but if this could be avoided I would appreciate it.

(Note for those who don't know, when a full screen D3D game is started aero turns itself off, and when the game is done, it comes back on. Might be possible to hook into those events to make the bar refresh or something)

I noticed you can rearrange the taskbar buttons with shift+drag. Bugs:

* Dragging onto the blank area creates separators.
* Dragging one button onto the blank area halves the button (and above).

When launching remote desktop (mstsc.exe) you will get two entries in the taskbar.

1) Remote desktop itself
2) Input Capture Window

Number 2 should be a invisible window

This is with Windows XP x64 version.

A minor fit-and-finish issue.... The Windows Taskbar appears and disappears smoothly, but the Smart Taskbar just pops in and out. It would be nice to have the Smart Taskbar mimic the behavior of the native Windows one.

Not something that would stop me from using UltraMon, but a nice-to-have if you can get to it pre-release.

>>> I noticed you can rearrange the taskbar buttons with shift+drag

This feature doesn't work yet, I'm also not sure if it will be present in future releases (at least in this form).

>>> error is in DeskTaskBarManager.cpp at line 1027

You'll get this error if UltraMon can't install one of the hooks it uses (global CALLWNDRET hook).

You could try if starting UltraMon manually after you get the error message fixes the problem. Also look for any applications which might prevent UltraMon from installing a hook.

BTW, you should have the same problem with earlier versions of UltraMon.

>>> address bar as a toolbar on the secondary taskbar and it does not accept text input into the box

The Address bar isn't compatible with UltraMon, currently I don't see a fix for this.

>>> can't resize UltraMon taskbars

See my previous reply for information on resizing the UltraMon taskbars.

>>> Also it looks like the UltraMon taskbar is using ClearType

The main taskbar does this as well, this is due to how the taskbar gets rendered.

>>> The Windows Taskbar appears and disappears smoothly, but the Smart Taskbar just pops in and out

Support for this will be considered for a later release.

Wallpaper/Taskbar orientation.

After installing 3.0 beta, the wallpaper shows up correctly (secondary monitor to the left of primary) however I have noticed that the transparent taskbar and smart taskbar seem to mimic the pre 3.0 beta issue of confusing the monitor orientation. The main monitors' taskbar shows the background of the secondary monitor. This seems to only affect the wallpaper, as application windows are correctly visible through the taskbar on the proper display.

Hello, thanks for the new beta, I was wondering if there is any way to add the "Quick Launch" toolbar or a "New Toolbar.." to use with just plain shortcuts on the smart taskbar? and also do you plan to add window previews (thumbnails) to the smart taskbar in vista.

Thanks ;)

Installation Problems on VISTA32...

When I attempted to install the Beta1 software, I was shown a screen stating a number of different processes needed to be stopped. I cancelled the install, then set my computer to boot in safe mode to minimize running processes. When my system booted to safe mode, I got a BSOD and all kinds of file corruption issues. I restored my entire machine from a disk image.

Never had any issues like this before with your installer. Not sure I could repeat the scenario and unfortunately don't have time to try, but thought you would like to know.

>>> transparent taskbar and smart taskbar seem to mimic the pre 3.0 beta issue of confusing the monitor orientation

I've seen this as well depending on the wallpaper, seems to be a bug in Vista.

>>> any way to add the "Quick Launch" toolbar or a "New Toolbar.."

The standard Quick Launch toolbar doesn't work with UltraMon, but I'm considering adding a replacement. What works fine is the True Launch Bar.

>>> add window previews (thumbnails) to the smart taskbar

>>> error in TaskBand.cpp at Line: 633

Did you notice what applications were running on the UltraMon taskbar when the error occurred?

You'll get this error when UltraMon fails to update the icon for a taskbar button.

>>> IE7 won't move to other monitor while maximized

You'll need to disable protected mode under Tools > Internet Options > Security.

>>> Installation Problems on VISTA32

My guess would be that this is due to something else, UltraMon uses a pretty standard Windows Installer setup, and doesn't install any drivers on Vista.

I tried this and it works. I am now up and running with Vista 64bit and ultramon 3.0. My smart taskbars are transparent using the Aero theme and I'm loving the new toolbars function. Thanks.

There is one issue I still have. On one of my screens I like to autohide the smart taskbar for that screen only and no others. Is this possible with a regedit? I prefer each taskbar having its own settings rather then just using the main taskbar settings for autohide and lock.

OK, this is a weird one.

I'm running a 1920x1600 notebook with a 1680x1050 second display.

The issue is with remote desktop sessions using Microsoft's MSTSC.EXE application to establish remote Windows terminal sessions (RDP).

When the RDP session opens full screen on the notebook monitor (as usual), its internal resolution ends up being 1920x2048, so the session ends up with scroll bars.

Apparently, MSTSC is not picking up the proper screen resolution to pass to the Windows server to establish proper (matched to local) session resolution.

Since I've never come across anything quite like this before, I'd say it's a serious issue and will probably show up in other cases as well; I suspect that other symptoms with other applications will be related.

>>> On one of my screens I like to autohide the smart taskbar for that screen only

>>> When the RDP session opens full screen, its internal resolution ends up being 1920x2048

There was a folder window on my third monitor and ultramon thought it was on my first. I was able to drag the window off and onto the monitor to get it correctly recognized.

The taskbar button for another folder on the third monitor wouldn't work. Probably a True Launch bug, but when I first added the toolbar to the 2nd screen, with the same toolbar open on the main screen, every icon appeared twice in the 2nd toolbar.

Don't know if this is hidden somewhere else, but in the previous version, i had the option of having the UltraMon taskbar on the main monitor. I like to have it on top of my regular task bar, so the UltraMon bar would have just my open app windows, then my main bar would have quicklaunch and address bars. My Secondary monitor would have its own taskbar with the apps for that monitor. Is this no longer an option? I don't see the option for a taskbar on my main monitor anymore.

>>> Which version of True Launch Bar are you using? I tested with the 4.1.7 Beta and so far haven't seen this.

The latest version as well. I left the "Quick Launch" TLB toolbar open on my main screen. Then opened the "Quick Launch" TLB toolbar again on the SmartBar. When I was resizing it, it showed the icons and the icons started again in the same order.

At this point I closed the toolbar on the Smartbar, then closed the toolbar on the main screen. I added the TLB Quick Launch to the smartbar again and didn't get the double icons.

I am experiencing a redraw/refresh issue with the TLB icons on some menus. Nothing like stacking up the beta software.

Another anomaly that has appeared is that despite checking the setting 'Standard - each taskbar only shows tasks from the monitor it is on' I have just had an instance of a task being shown on both monitors. I've not noticed this happening before.

Re: Pete: OS: Vista x32 Ultimate
Wallpaper/Taskbar orientation.

>>>however I have noticed that the transparent taskbar and smart taskbar seem to mimic the pre 3.0 beta issue of confusing the monitor orientation. The main monitors' taskbar shows the background of the secondary monitor. This seems to only affect the wallpaper, as application windows are correctly visible through the taskbar on the proper display.

I also noticed this... any word on if it's possible to be fixed? I haven't restarted since I installed.. could that be the issue?
Agentwalker   2007-04-14 22:35
Everything appears to be working ok, in particular its fixed my problem with the wallpapers as I have my primary monitor on the right and the secondary on the left.

This problem has now been fixed HOWEVER it seems that even through the wallpapers are displaying ok the transparency effect in the bottom taskbar doesn't match the wallpaper.

For example its as if the transparency effect is suffering from the same problem as the old version of ultramon when the primary monitor is on the right. To highlight the problem I can unlock the taskbar then pull it right up the screen, when you do this you can see the wallpaper thats ment to be on the left screen partially on the right.

so it seems the wallpaper problem has been fixed but not on the taskbar transparency in vista.

The real taskbar on my primary display still shows windows that are on other displays but not in every case. For example right now I have

primary display - 1
---------------
Lotus Notes 7 - Calendar - actually on display 2
Lotus Notes 7 - Email - correct
Lotus Notes 7 - Database- actually on display 3
feeddemon - Actually on display 2
Maxthon - Correct
Allway sync - Actually on display 2
Explorer window 1 - Actually on display 3
Explorer window 2 - correct

Display 2 - on the left of display 1
====================================
Lotus Notes 7 -Calendar - also shows on display 1
Outlook 2007 - correct
Allway sync - also shows on display 1
Feeddemon - also shows on display 1

Display 3 - on the right of display 1
=====================================
Windows Live messanger - correct
Lotus sametime 7.5 - correct
Explorer - also on display 1
maxthon - correct

I had simillar problems with the previous version of Ultramon 2.71 I think

I have an nvidia quadro 4 head graphics card and Vista ultimate

Thanks for the great software

I couldn't find this referenced in the forums, but I apologize if it has already been brought up and I missed it.

The wallpaper image that gets created appears to have a white strip at the bottom underneath the windows taskbar when the taskbar is two row high. Since I am running Aero, I can see underneath the taskbar and it appears white (blank) for about the height of one row of taskbar and runs 75% or so across the screen from the left side. (like it is sized to start above the taskbar.

My screen is 1680x1050 on the primary, with 1280x1024 secondary on left. If I turn on autohide for the taskbar, there is no white strip.

Hope this helps, and thanks for your hard work on this!
Christian Studer   2007-04-21 09:53
I've seen this as well, looks like a Vista bug.

The wallpaper underneath the taskbar is from the wrong monitor, also happens with the Windows taskbar if you move it to a secondary monitor.

The wallpaper itself is actually okay, UltraMon doesn't change the wallpaper depending on the UltraMon taskbar being enabled or not.

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
Keith   2007-04-22 00:01
Wow...you are dead on with that one. Just for kicks I stretched the taskbar up to 10 or so rows high and you can clearly make out that the image under it is the secondary monitor image, not the primary.

Very strange that Microsoft would do it that way...

Some more feedback on 3.0 Beta 1

I've got the following extra taskbar icons which shouldn't be visible:
1. Remote Desktop Connection, Input Capture Window (both tied back to a RDP session)
2. Google Talk

There are also some issues with Office 2007 which you may already be aware of:
1. Open email items don't have a move desktop icon
2. Move desktop icon doesn't work with Excel 2007. If you click on it, the entire window freezes until you close/open it via taskbar icon.

Cheers,

For some reason it has been happening to me a lot over the past few days (about once every 30 minutes.) Toggling the smart taskbar on and off will get it running again.

I cannot find a reproduction path unfortunately, and I do not know what has changed on my system; it seems to happen sporadically, from coming out of sleep to simply moving a window. (I've also tried it without touching sleep since that causes other issues...)

I should note that my system resources are abundant; currently I'm at 56% physical memory usage and the processor is nominal.

Please let me know if there are any workarounds- this is one of my favorite tools but this is bad enough that I may have to give up my UltraMon :(
Mikey   2007-05-17 18:30
I am not positive yet, but I think I found the culprit. It seems the newest version of iTunes is including this "iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll" service. It seems that it tries to analyze all key-presses on your machine (even with iTunes running in the background!)

A lot of applications are having problems with this (including Visual Studio/Winforms themselves!)

I had to delete the "iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll" file and add another blank folder with that exact name in that same place (so iTunes will not regenerate it.) Since then, I have not seen the UltraMon error.

Regardless of if is the issue or not, I recommend removing this anyway as it seems to be causing instability elsewhere (it fricken' hijacks all iTunes hotkeys on your entire os!) ...Plus SecurityTaskManager warned me about this module since it has a very high spyware/spam risk given its very nature. Deleting it just disables key-presses when not in iTunes (big deal!)

Good luck!

Some programs such as ventrilo (VoIP) will not move onto the smart taskbar when dragged off of the primary monitor, until minimized (from the secondary monitor to the windows taskbar) and then restored. This restores it to the secondary monitor and moves the taskbar entry to the smart taskbar.

Note: Ventrilo has a minimize to tray option which I have enabled.

Update: Unfortunately that iTunes "fix" does not fix the problem. Although I do not think it is related, I am down to an average of five minutes until I lose the Smart Taskbar with that same TaskBand.cpp error. In fact, a couple times it threw the error and removed the TaskBar immediately after enabling the the taskbar.

Once again, I am sad to lose one of my favorite applications, but I think I have to give up. (Even if I know it is probably Microsoft's fault, it is essentially unusable now :( )

I'm encountering problems with Ultramon and Office 2007 applications.

The thing that I most like about Ultramon is the "Move Window" button in the additional windows buttons. nVidia has a similar feature in their XP x86 drivers for my graphics card (NVidia Quadro FX4400) but they do not have it in their Vista x64 drivers. In fact, the desire to have this button is what prompted me to try Ultramon 3.0 Beta 1.

Most windows move just fine from one monitor to the other when I click the "Move Window" button. Unfortunately, this is not true with the Microsoft Office 2007 Windows. The Ultramon buttons often do not show up at all and when they do, they generally operate very erratically. I'm still operating on the Ultramon trial period. I'd buy if I thought the final Release of Ultramon 3.0 for x64 will work correctly with Office 2007 windows running on Vista Ultimate x64. Any idea if this problem will be fixed in the final release?

When using WinSCP (latest version - v4.0.4) with UltraMon 3.0 Beta 1, if you set the shortcut key for moving a window from the primary monitor to the secondary monitor (I use Alt-Right Key and Alt-Left Key), and I have WinSCP on the primary monitor and press Alt-Right to move it to the secondary monitor on the right, the WinSCP window shrinks so you lose everything except the title bar and minimize/close buttons. It is impossible to restore it to regular size (even if moving it back to the primary monitor, or clicking the 'maximize' button) - the program must be closed and re-opened.

Not sure if this is an Ultramon 3.0Beta1 bug, WinSCP bug, or both...but.. wanted to mention it as it is quite annoying.

Great product otherwise. Looking forward to the next beta release to gain more stability.

Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately that did not correct the issue. Maybe this problem is specific to Vista x64. Either way, the second taskbar is not correctly detecing the first's settings. Is there a registry setting to manually override this detection? Thanks.

Christian Studer   2007-09-23 07:37
MJH, I'll look into this for the next release, WinSCP is probably not compatible with the way UltraMon moves maximized windows (UltraMon can work around this).

djbob, I'm not sure what would cause this, works fine for me on 64-bit Vista with UltraMon 3.0 Beta 1.

The locked setting can't be set manually as this is always picked up from the main taskbar.

Could you consider releasing a version that fixes the crash bugs (taskband.cpp), so people can stand to use the beta until you finish? I think a lot of people who use iTunes and get regular crashes would REALLY REALLY appreciate it (and buy your software...) .

I've been checking your website weekly since March, please please consider fixing the known crash bugs?
Christian Studer   2007-09-25 09:40
djbob, no, that's the default and should work fine with UltraMon.

If you unlock the main taskbar, then run regedit.exe and go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced', what's the value for TaskbarSizeMove?

Andrew, currently I have no plans for an intermediate release before Beta 2. I would recommend installing 2.7.1 if you get frequent Smart Taskbar errors, the main issue is that the Smart Taskbar won't match the Vista look.

Hello Christian,
I have solved the issue. My fix follows:
1) I opened the Ultramon Taskbar.

3) I was able to adjust it as if it was
4) I restarted the Ultramon Taskbar.

Currently I have no plans for an e-mail mailing list, but you could subscribe to the RSS feed from the multi-monitor resource site, any new releases will get mentioned there.

I'm not sure what would cause this, but it seems unlikely that this would be related to UltraMon.

Removing UltraMon will remove all components of the application, after a successful uninstallation UltraMon will no longer be able to run. To verify that UltraMon is no longer running, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager from the menu, then select the Processes tab and check if UltraMon.exe is listed there.

I already e-mailed, but figured I'd post incase anybody else is having a similar issue.

Here are my monitors:

ViewSonic VX2025wm #1
Sharp Aquos 46d92u #2

At the bottom is a snapshot of what my system is running. I'm also using ultramon 3.0.0 x64 beta 1.

I like to switch the primary monitors so that I can play games on my tv. My viewsonic monitor is normally the primary monitor. If I use UltraMon's switch to set the tv as primary, then for some reason Mame 1.20 (x64) will still load on the monitor. I'm using full screen mame of course, run from the command line with no flags. I tried this with Lost Planet on Steam, and that will load on the tv when it is primary.

However, if I go into the nvidia control panel, and switch the primary monitor there, then mame will load on the tv just fine. I'd prefer to use ultramon though because I can set shortcuts and it's much faster then switching it in the control panel.

So basically, if I set the primary with ultramon, mame always loads on my viewsonic. Using nvidia control panel, it will load on either. Mame seems to be the only program I have that does this.

I don't have any other games to currently test with. If there's any other information that would be helpful please let me know.

Thanks,
John

This could happen for a couple of reasons, unfortunately there's no fix for this in UltraMon:

- MAME always runs on monitor 1, and when you switch the primary via the Nvidia software, the TV becomes monitor #1

- applications which use OpenGL for 3D rendering may still run on the original primary monitor, I'm not sure what exactly causes this

I keep getting a fatal error after which Ultramon 3.0.2 crashes. I'm using Vista Ultimate. The other problem is that vista looses track of which window should be on top. It allows a window to be focused, but does not bring it to the front (in front of other open windows) where I can see it. ALT+TAB or the vista 3d Scroll features don't fix it. They will focus it, but not bring the window to the front. This has happened with windows for Word, Excel, Google talk, Firefox and IE.

GR, what's the error message you get?

Also... sometimes, text on my main (left) monitor becomes slightly blurry and I have to "disable second monitor" and re-enable it to get the text to become sharp again.

swatspyder, you'll get this if UltraMon fails to enable transparency for the taskbar, unfortunately I don't know exactly what causes this to fail. The error message will get disabled in the next release, the taskbar will then just run without transparency.

I'm not sure what would cause the issue with text becoming blurry, but it's very unlikely that this would be related to UltraMon. Maybe a display setting, for example the refresh rate, gets changed.
