Christian Studer   2001-09-16 12:34
What's new:

- improved stability
- new mirror mode
- minimize active task by left-clicking the task's button

The following problems have been fixed:

- Outlook Express: on Win98/Me, hangs during startup if Smart Taskbar is running
- Windows Commander: can't select option in confirmation dialog
- PowerPlus: Smart Taskbar shows a button for each AIM window
- Photoshop: can't select option in Save for Web dialog

Installing the update:

Option 1: patching your existing Beta 5 installation

- for Win98/Me, download um20b5.1w9x.zip
- for Win2000/XP, download um20b5.1w2k.zip
- close UltraMon
- extract the ZIP file into your UltraMon directory, usually C:\Program Files\UltraMon

Option 2: full install

- download UltraMon20b5.msi
- uninstall your existing UltraMon installation
- install the new MSI file

Please see the updated release notes for known issues.

Hmm, wont be using this it appears :(

After swapping to the new beta 5 package (uninstall, reinstall of new package) i played about a bit and all is well in windows...but launch UT on primary with a 'normal mode' taskbar on secondaty and all hell breaks loose as UltraMonTaskbar grabs 99% of cpu usage and draws system to a standstill...took me 7mins to get out the game and i never even got past the menu screen :P

Still no love with XP final (2600), WindowBlinds XP 6n and the Desktop Settings. Ultramon works fine unless I hit the Desktop Settings, then I get a crash. After that I can't launch Ultramon unless I uninstall it and reinstall it; the program crashes immediately upon launching.

It doesnt seem to jive well with windowsblinds, know a friend had the exact same prob with WBXP and the old Beta 5 ultramon as i just described as having with the new Beta 5 when launching UT, where ultramontaskbar would just go nutz on cpu time :)

Yeah, and I have errors when I try to uninstall WindowBlinds, with an "unable to open install.log". Grr. Reinstalling it doesn't help either. We'll have to get UM working with WB though, as it's the main way people will be able to add new themes to XP.

Hmm... just tried a new install of XP build 2600 on a different machine. This one does not have WindowBlinds XP installed. UltraMon works for a bit, unless I hit desktop properties, then that crashes. Hitting the About link afterwards it doesn't show any information in the combo box. After that UltraMon just crashes on startup, the icon stays until I mouse over it, then disappears. Rebooting I get the same behavior. I can only get Ultramon to work with uninstalling UM, reinstalling it, and not rebooting, which makes it crash immediately again.

Both systems: Dell, PIII 600's. One has Nvidia TNT 2 M64 AGP w/ 21.81 XP drivers & 3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 PCI card, other has Nvidia Geforce 2 MX AGP w/ 21.81 AGP drivers & 3DFX Voodoo 3 PCI card.

I have just tested on XP RC2 with WindowBlinds XP Beta 6, no problems at all.

Did you have anything else installed besides UltraMon?

@hlon: I'll send you a special test version of UltraMonTaskbar.exe later today.

Yeah, I get the crash w/o WindowBlinds on that comp. I've got just about everything installed, I setup that machine this morning fresh to stress test it with real apps (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Homesite, etc.) Norton Antivirus 2002, Webwasher, Powermarks, etc.
