I have my laptop at 1440x900 and 22 inch monitor at 1680x1024. When I mirror the laptop on the monitor, it looks horrible. So, I though I'd try mirroring the monitor on the laptop. When I do that I get the message:Failed to set up mirror monitors. restarting should fix the problerm. Restarting doesn't help. I suspect Its because I can't set the 22 inch monitor to be primary.

If we could do this and ultramon could preserve aspect ratio when mirroring it would be fantastic instread of just great..

This is due to the upscaling from 1440x900 to 1680x1024 done by UltraMon, for better image quality select a lower resolution for the mirror target monitor under mirroring settings. This will also improve performance.

UltraMon can't use the primary monitor as the mirror target monitor, you'll get the error message you mentioned when configuring mirroring this way.

Thanks Christian. I can set the 22 inch monitor to 1440x900 as you suggest and it looks good. However, it does not fill the whole screen. Is there any setting I can use to coax it to use the whole screen?

Not via UltraMon, but the monitor or video card driver should have a setting which determines if non-native resolutions fill the whole screen.
