Forums -> UltraMon™ -> ultramon failure after a Windows automatic upgrade, 6/13/07

After successfully using UltraMon for 18 months, it failed this morning, suspiciously after an automatic security update by Windows, for XP professional.
For the most part, it refused to mirror, with an error message about not having setup to mirror, and suggesting that we reboot....which I did. To force the issue I booted without pressing Fn/F5, so that the only image was on the analog (non-laptop...screen 2)screen. But then the image went wild giving an apparently infinite regress of mirrored screens. Actually, I did something to precipitate this, but cannot remember exactly what.

help, please, Phil

Make sure your primary monitor is not configured to mirror the secondary monitor under mirroring settings.

For example if monitor 1 is the primary monitor, monitor 1 should be configured to mirror no other monitor, and monitor 2 should be configured to mirror monitor 1.

If it's set up the other way around, mirroring will fail.

Hi Christian:

would it be better to continue by e-mail, as this isn't a hot topic.
At any rate, the problem persists, with monitor 1 not mirroring anyone: 2 mirroring 1.
When I ask to identify monitor 1 and 2 the numbers come up appropriately, and monitor 2 has the windows background color....just no icons, etc.
The problem survived a reload of UltraMnon, plus a reboot with the firewall turned off.

That's no problem, please send me the following to support@realtimesoft.com:

- system information from UltraMon menu > About

- exact text of the error message you get. You can copy the text by pressing CTRL+C

- export of the mirroring settings. To save the settings to a file, run regedit.exe, then right-click the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Mirroring' and select Export from the menu
