Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Can't get Ultramon to work with Radeon x1300 pro card with Y cable

Have Dell Optiplex computer with Radeon x1300 pro card with a Y cable connected to two anologue LCD monitors.

Ultramon initially appears to work; buttons added to windows and they work, smart taskbar on both monitors seems fine. Yet when I set the properties for Internet Explorer to run on monitor 2 (secondary monitor) the primary IE window is okay but all other popup windows from IE appear on monitor 1. How can I get them to appear only on monitor 2 with the parent window of IE? Other than using the custom setting in properties all other settings are the defaults.

Additionally, some of my programs go into a loop or quit responding. This includes IE and Outlook. Outlook works until I click the send button to send an email. After waiting a long time I can close Ultramon then the programs continue working okay. Likewise IE works until I try to upload files to a web site. Then they hang.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Forgot to mention the operating system is XP Pro SP 2 and Ultramon version 2.7.1

UltraMon currently can only position the main application window, any popup/dialog/child windows won't get positioned.

Regarding the application hangs: do you have ATI Hydravision installed and enabled? If yes, please try if the problem goes away if you disable it.

Hydravision is not installed as it does not support the Radeon x1300 series of cards.

Apparently I misunderstood that Ultramon didn't support placement of child/popup windows because that is what I purchased it to do.

Does anyone know of any other product that will do this and work with the x1300 cards with the single DMS-59 connector?

What version of IE and Outlook are you using?

ZMover should be able to position popup and child windows.

I know the drivers for my Matrox G450 have an option of controlling where an applications pop up windows appear, and I also think the NVidia drivers might have similar settings. Do the ATI drivers have any settings like that?

What version of IE and Outlook are you using?

Outlook 2003 11.5608.5606

IE 6.02900.2180

I also tried today to get Hydravision Basic to work. On ATI's website it says it supports all desktop products, but on the Hydravision installation notes it lists all the Radeon series of cards supported and the x1300 nor any other x series is listed. I tried it anyway and it partially works. Some subwindows popup on the parent monitor, others don't. At least it's better than it was.

I don't see any option like that for the driver under Display Properties or Device Manager.

See also my previous response regarding Hydravision Basic.

So far I haven't been able to reproduce the issue with IE, uploading a file to a website worked fine. I tested with UltraMon 2.7.1 and IE 6 on Windows XP SP2.

Maybe it's due to a conflict with another application which installs hooks, you could run EnumHooks for further troubleshooting, this tool generates a list of potential hooks that are installed.
