I am trying to setup 4 monitors on two video cards in vista.

1st card: Asus GT 8600 pci Express
2nd card; ATI 9250 pci

I have problems setting it up. According to the source below Vista does not accept two different video drivers!?!

Sounds very strange! Can anyone confirm or advise a solution to correct this

Thanks
Jacob

In theory this should work fine when using XP-style (XPDM) drivers for both cards, but you will then not be able to use the Aero theme, which requires Vista (WDDM) video card drivers.

Because only a single WDDM driver can be loaded at any time, both video cards would need to use the same driver, which is only possible if both cards use the same brand of chipset, for example two Nvidia or two ATI cards.

Thanks Christian,

It is actually possible to force Vista to use two XP drivers to make this setup work?

Do you have a link to a guide to implement this?

Thanks
Jacob

That should be possible, I haven't tried this myself though.

Microsoft has more technical information on this: MultiMonitor Support and Windows Vista
