Wow...what I thougt was going to be a 15 minute setup is now going on 3 days, and I still don't know what I'm doing wrong.

My needs are very simple. I have two 24" widescreen monitors (both 1920 x 1200 resolution). I want to run the primary in landscape mode, & mirror the second monitor in portrait mode (both displays are DVI running off 1 ATI Radeon X1950 Pro card). The only other feaure I need is to enable the wallpaper manager, to have a different wallpaper @ monitor (1 horizontal & 1 vertical).

The problem is that I can't get Ultramon to recognize & enable the secondary monitor. I've set the monitors to Clone mode in ATI's control panel & attached the 2nd monitor in XP. Windows Display Properties shows both monitors as enabled & configured properly. The cloning works perfectly when both monitors are in landscape mode without Ultramon installed.

Even though Windows Display Properties shows both monitors are configured correctly, Ultamon's Display Settings window shows the 2nd monitor is detached, and the options to enable it are grayed out. Also, clicking the "Enable Secondary" command in the right-click menu does nothing. Similiarily, clicking any of the enable options from the "Actions" button also does nothing.

I'm sure the reason all my options in the Wallpaper manager are grayed out also is because the 2nd monitor is detached.

For what it's worth, there's no conflicts with the display driver...it loads well after the primary drivers are loaded.

Someone, anyone, * PLEASE * shed some light on why my 2nd monitor isn't being recognized in Ultramon. This is my 3rd day fighting this issue & my head hurts...literally.

Ultramon v2.71
XP home - fully updated & patched, incl. latest bios
Card: Radeon X1950 Pro, latest drivers & control panel
2 Dell 24" wide screen displays (2407 WFP-HC)

This happens if UltraMon mirroring is active, UltraMon will then treat the mirror target monitor as detached.

With mirroring you won't be able to use a different wallpaper on each monitor, both monitors will show the exact same thing, applications, wallpaper, etc.

I suppose I should have posted my question days ago, instead of making myself crazy trying to figure that out. Now that I know how that works, I finished my 15 minute setup in no time.

Assuming no other surprises show up, I'll be purchasing shortly. So far, so good.

Thanks for the quick response. Cheers.
