Hello, I am a huge fan, and really like this software.
I have used ultramon on XP for a long time and really liked it.
However, I am forced to use vista at work, adn the beta client for vista crashes all the time.
Any idea when a release will be made? I am not complaining, but even a second beta might be an improvement over what I have now.
Thanks for all the great work!

The second beta is still under development, I don't have a release date yet.
If you get frequent Smart Taskbar errors, I would recommend installing version 2.7.1 instead, which won't have those issues.
The main disadvantage is that the Smart Taskbar won't match the Vista look, and the wallpaper manager won't work correctly if you have a monitor to the left of the primary.

If I have disabled the ugly as sin vista theme, and am going with the "Classic" look, this wont effect me, correct?
Thanks for the crazy prompt reply.

Yes, this won't be an issue if you're using the classic look.
BTW, you also won't have the issue with the window buttons not working, they'll work fine on Vista when using the classic look.

I'm trying the new beta on Vista and find that some programs won't load properly on startup. They stay minimised in the task bar rather than showing as icons.
Additionally although the expand/move controls work in IE7 they aren't visible, so you have to guess where they are!

PS: And the way out of this is to close Ultramon, hide or close the apps and then restart Ultramon. Apart from this a great utility.

IanH, both issues should be fixed in the next release.

I just wanted to say thanks for developing such a great app. The Beta works pretty well for me under Vista Ultimate, and I don't have any of the issues others are experiencing above - however, there is an issue with one particular app that I have - KeePass Password Safe, running form a UFD - when I have the window open on the second monitor, located physically and in system properties to the right of the primary monitor, and I close the app using File Exit, it crashes the Smart Task bar.
System:
P4 3.0 GHz (Prescott) on MSI Neo2 Platinum Edition (6728) mobo VisionTek ATI Radeon x1650 Pro based GA with 512 MB DDR Dual 19" CRTs - ViewSonic GS790 and Philips 109B2 Vista Ultimate

John, do you get an error in TaskBand.cpp at line 443 or 633? If yes, the issue should be fixed in the next release.

i am having EXACTLY theses same problems... it seems to be connected to IE7 i think, or at least it really only happens when i have IE open. but it is HUGELY annoying as i constantly have to restart ultramon dozens of times a day (literally!).
so my question is this... how much longer should i expect to wait before getting my hands on the new beta? i would like an idea because if its going to be months i need to install 2.7 and just deal... if we are talking days or weeks, i will wait for it, and just cope with restarting for now...
any ideas?

I've used 2.7.1 successfully on XP but with my recent upgrade to Vista Ultimate neither the Beta nor 2.7.1 work properly - especially with IE7. No switching indicators appear within IE7 and the right click menu doesn't move the browser windows to the alternate monitor.
Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Shawn, later this year, unfortunately I can't give you a closer estimate.
antnyc, you'll need to disable protected mode for IE, the option is under Tools > Internet Options > Security. This issue will be fixed in the next release.

Christian,
Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, it is in fact a line 633 error. I am glad that at least that issue will be resolved.
However, I just found another one that is really intriguing.
When posting at forums, since I have a dual monitor system, I have found that rather than using firefox and switching back and forth between tabs (which gets heinous when I have many tabs open) I can use 2 instances of Firefox open, one in one monitor with all the links I am going to refer to and one in the other monitor with just the places I am blogging / posting to.
However, UM doesn't play nicely with this. I have set up a KB shortcut to move apps from one monitor to the other, and that works fine - however, since I have 2 instances of Firefox, if I move *one* to another monitor, on the taskbar both of them move - regardless of actual position.
Let me know if I should post a screen shot through Google (Picasa) or elsewhere to more accurately describe the problem. I hope this is not expected behavior, because this wold obviously be one of the benefits of running a multiple-monitor system, right?

sorry for the dp - but I found a caveat.
If you run one instance of the program (in my case Fx) and move it to another monitor, and then open a second instance, then they remain separated. But as soon as you try to move either window to the other monitor and then move one or the other back to a separate monitor, the shenanigans begin.

Which version of Firefox are you using?
So far I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, I tested with UltraMon 3.0 Beta 1 and Firefox 2.0.0.3 on 32-bit Vista. When moving a Firefox window via Move Window hotkey, only that window's task button was moved.
