Forums -> Multiple monitors -> Using two different types of video cards in Windows Vista?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just built a new computer with vista and an 8800 gt card. My motherboard only has 1 PCI-E slot (I don't think SLI helps much for the price) but I recently had the idea of doing a multi monitor setup to play poker.

Right now I have my main monitor 19"widescreen and my 42" LCD tv hooked up to my video card.

I want to do 2 more 19"ws if possible. I have considered getting another cheap computer and using maxivista, but it looks like that causes problems for vista and WDDM (quick google check). I just thought of another option of possibly getting an older (6 or 7 series) PCI card as I have several free regular PCI slots. Could I do this? Would this cause any problems? How would this work with games, especially with DX10 ( my secondary card wouldnt support it) ?

I don't really plan on using the other monitors for games; but it would be great if I could use one for say supreme commander, however this is not the primary focus, i just want a good multi monitor setup so I can do ~ 9 tables.

Thanks in advance for asnwering questions, I'll check this thread regularly and post followups if you need clarification on anything!

This is what I have with my 8800GT. It works well but i am getting pauses sometimes when minimizing/maximizing windows. it randomly gets laggy for no apparent reason on 6200 connected lcds when moving/scrolling... it seems like a buffer problem more than anything.
