I have been having this problem since 3.0 was released in all beta versions. I thought I would give it some time before I posted to see if it would be fixed but it still hasn't been in the latest release. I have 4 monitors, 3 of the 4 monitors the smart taskbar works correctly. On one of the monitors when ever something is maximized it gets hidden behind the smart taskbar instead of resizing correctly right below the smart taskbar like the other monitors. See the screenshot, it is monitor 2 that is having the problem.

Thanks for the information, for some reason the taskbar on monitor 1 (second monitor from left on the screenshot) doesn't have any screen area reserved for it.

What happens if you restart UltraMon?

Same thing happens, I have tried restarting Ultramon and restarting the computer, nothing seems to fix it...
Christian Studer   2008-01-18 11:04
Does the problem go away if you disable either monitor 2 or 3?

Yes, but I need all four monitors to be working correctly. Here is the information with 3 monitors.

3 monitors
Current desktop: 3840x1024 (-1280,0 - 2560,1024)

Monitor 1 - ViewSonic VA903 Series:
Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 75 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: -1280,0 - 0,1024. Workspace: -1280,30 - 0,1024
Video card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor0

Monitor 2 - ViewSonic VA903 Series:
Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 75 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1280,0 - 2560,1024. Workspace: 1280,0 - 2560,1024
Video card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor0

Monitor 3 - Generic PnP Monitor (primary):
Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 75 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1280,1024. Workspace: 0,30 - 1280,1024
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Device: \\.\DISPLAY4\Monitor1

Are you sure it's working correctly? With only 3 monitors enabled, monitor 2 seems to have the same problem as monitor 1 in the 4-monitor configuration.

The screen and workspace coordinates are the same, which means that no screen space has been reserved for the always on top taskbar:

Coordinates: 1280,0 - 2560,1024. Workspace: 1280,0 - 2560,1024

It was working correctly when I posted that, but when I locked my workstation, came back and unlocked it was no longer working. It has the same problem as I mentioned initially. Any idea how to fix this, it is quite frustrating?
Christian Studer   2008-01-23 11:55
Unfortunately I don't know what would cause this, I also haven't been able to reproduce the issue so far. I tested with a 3-monitor configuration similar to yours, with monitor 3 as primary.

Some things you could check:

- do you have any other desktop toolbars open?

- is the sidebar on the monitor which has the problem?

- does the problem appear as soon as the system is started? For example if you only open Notepad and maximize it on the monitor with the problem, does it work fine or not?

One thing I could do is send you a test version of the Smart Taskbar to check if the problem is related to UltraMon or not. If you are interested, please send a mail to support@realtimesoft.com.

I have a similar issue but with just 2 monitors. This happens to both monitors and its quite frustrating. When I maximize my app window it covers the task bar. I also am running rocket dock but I have turned that off and it still happens. I just wanted to say that he is not alone in stuff like this happening. Hope to see a workaround/fix for this as I like to work in maximized.

Thanks
Dusty

Well something is causing it.

- do you have any other desktop toolbars open?
no

- is the sidebar on the monitor which has the problem?
no

- does the problem appear as soon as the system is started? For example if you only open Notepad and maximize it on the monitor with the problem, does it work fine or not?
no, it usually happens once i lock the workstation...after i log back in from this then the problem starts occurring

"One thing I could do is send you a test version of the Smart Taskbar to check if the problem is related to UltraMon or not. If you are interested, please send a mail to support@realtimesoft.com."

I will try anything to get the problem resolved.

Hi Christian,

Sorry for bumping a dead topic but this seemed to be the only topic I could find that was related to my problem.

I think this might be generally a problem with auto-hide on monitor 2. I have this happening at home and on my notebook, and it happened on my old notebook:

2 monitors
Current desktop: 2960x1050 (0,0 - 2960,1050)

Monitor 1 - Dell 2007WFP (Analog) (primary):
Settings: 1680x1050, 32-bit color, 59 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1680,1050. Workspace: 0,0 - 1680,1050
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor0

Monitor 2 - Generic PnP Monitor (removable):
Settings: 1280x800, 32-bit color, 60 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1680,0 - 2960,800. Workspace: 1680,0 - 2960,800
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor0

I have auto-hide enabled which is why there isn't any space allocated for the taskbars.

To answer questions posed earlier in this thread:
- I do not have any other desktop toolbars (I keep the Desktop, Quick Launch, and Windows Media Player desk bands open on desktop 1).
- Sidebar is not open at all.
- The problem is not reliably reproducible (it never is a problem on system startup).

Most commonly I'll see it happen (at home) when I'm playing World of Warcraft on the main monitor and I've got a maximized browser in the other monitor. I have Warcraft's settings set to be maximized, borderless, window mode (this setting enables Aero Glass effects to still be rendered). The secondary taskbar does not disappear immediately or necessarily after a specific period of time; just eventually I want to go to the other screen and view a different window, and the browser is maximized, and I have to restore it down to get to the smart taskbar.

I don't play games on either of my notebooks and I've had it happen as well, typically with Outlook, IE, or MS Documentation Viewer (for Visual Studio stuff) open.

I'm just curious if you've considered applying WS_EX_TOPMOST to it. I'm not familiar with what effect that would have, but thought it might be interesting. Perhaps only when it's in auto-hide mode?

Thanks so much for making such a fantastic product!
Christian Studer   2008-08-04 15:19
Rob, is this with UltraMon 3.0.2?

The taskbar is WS_EX_TOPMOST if always on top is enabled for the main taskbar, but there were problems with earlier versions where the taskbar could no longer move to the top after running a fullscreen application.

Hi Christian,

Yes, this is with 3.0 Beta 2.1.

I have "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" enabled in my taskbar appearances window, but Spy++ doesn't list that style flag for the main taskbar either.

Thanks for the reply!

I should point out, both the notebook that I posted before and the one I'm posting now are running on Vista Ultimate x64. Still, I observed this problem on Ultimate x86 as well.

Here are my specs at home:

3 monitors, 1 disabled
Current desktop: 3600x1202 (0,0 - 3600,1202)

Monitor 1 - Generic PnP Monitor (primary):
Settings: 1920x1200, 32-bit color, 59 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1920,1200. Workspace: 0,0 - 1920,1200
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2
Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor0

Monitor 2 - Default Monitor (disabled):
Settings: 1920x1200, 32-bit color, 59 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 0,0 - 1920,1200
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2
Device: \\.\DISPLAY2

Monitor 3 - Generic PnP Monitor:
Settings: 1680x1050, 32-bit color, 59 Hz refresh rate
Coordinates: 1920,152 - 3600,1202. Workspace: 1920,152 - 3600,1202
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2
Device: \\.\DISPLAY3\Monitor0

Monitor 1 is my primary, Monitor 3 is where I see the problem.

Thanks!
Christian Studer   2008-08-05 10:50
After the issue occurs both the UltraMon and main taskbar no longer have WS_EX_TOPMOST set? If yes, does the main taskbar have the same problem?

For me both the UltraMon and main taskbar have WS_EX_TOPMOST set initially.

Christian Studer - www.realtimesoft.com
Rob Paveza   2008-08-07 04:03
I don't see the WS_EX_TOPMOST applied to either the main or the Smart taskbar when auto-hide is off or on. The problem only ever occurs on the smart taskbar, though.
Christian Studer   2008-08-07 08:38
I'm not sure what might cause this, seems odd. Which version of Spy++ do you have installed? I'm using 9.00.21022.

Up !!!!

(Sorry for my english cause im french)

It's a shame that the taskbar in autohide mode, no longer opens on the second screen when a window is maximized.

This problem has a solution you find it?

Daniel.

Christian Studer   2012-02-15 08:34
Daniel, that should still work fine, just make sure the UltraMon taskbar is set to be always on top, you can adjust this setting via right-click on the taskbar.

Not sure why this wouldn't work on your system, which version of UltraMon and Windows are you using?
