Hi,
I am wondering, whether there is planned any kind of support for handling of applications published via Citrix.
Currently they seem to be ignored by Ultramon. (I understand, that as they are running on distant machine, as their menu cannot be customized, however I believe, that titlebar buttons could be added.)

I'm going to look into support for Server 2008 remote apps, if this works it might also be possible to support Citrix seamless windows.

I can't test with Citrix though, and would need help from a Citrix user to implement this.

Hi,
glad to hear that :) I cannot provide access to citrix now, however I can do any tests myself.

Hi,

Did support for Citrix XenApp ever make it into the product?

I work for Citrix and have a customer who wants to use this in a XenApp session to allow them to maximise the application to 1 or both monitors they have.

So far in their testing it has all worked fine, however they need to know whether this scenario is supported or not?

It is critical that the product is supported in the Citrx XenApp session, if it is not then their regulators will not allow them to use it. Without a statement of support they cannot proceed with using the product.

Thanks,

Rob Dobson

Glad to hear it's working, but UltraMon has no special support for Citrix, I also can't test with Citrix.

Christian,

There is a special Developer Edition of Citrix XenApp available here:

https://www.citrix.com/English/ss/downloads/details.asp?downloadId=1855051&productId=186

If you create an account here:

http://www.mycitrix.com

You should be able to downoad it.

Cheers,

Rob

Rob, I created an account, but get the error 'Your account does not permit you to access the requested content' when trying to download the XenApp developer edition.

Does the developer edition contain both server and client components, so that I could test if UltraMon works with an application deployed via XenApp?

Christian,

I have had your account modified so that you can get access to this.

It will give you a full featured 2 user version of XenApp, the client and server components.

Cheers,

Rob

HI - I have been working with Robert to get Ultramon working for the customer, on Xenapp 5. We have managed to get Ultramon working by doing the following:

Install Ultramon on the XenApp server itself.

Publish an application, and connect to it in "Seamless Mode" (this can be set client side, and the application appears without an additional title bar from the citrix client - basically looks as if its running locally.)

Set the maximum memory available for graphics to 7168kb (this is vital) - configurable in the Citrix Delivery services console - must be set on the individual server - the "inherit farm settings" option doesnt seem to work!

Call UM from a login script (add START c:/progra~1/ultramon/ultramon.exe to the begining of usrlogon.cmd in the system32 directory of the XenApp Server - this is only done because i have hardened the permissions on the RUN registry key as part of performance tuning)

The UM title bar menu will appear on any published application onthe server. the system tray icon doesnt appear unless you publish ultramon separately from the same server, and run it - however this isnt necessarily a massive issue.

That doesn't work for me, does the client operating system matter? I'm using Windows 7 on the client.

UltraMon is installed on the server, apps are running in seamless mode, and there's 32 MB of memory for graphics (farm properties > Server Default > ICA > Display).

The client OS shouldn't make a difference. But just in case I would upgrade to the latest XenApp client, available here, do not use the Web one:

http://www.citrix.com/English/ss/downloads/details.asp?downloadId=1858087&productId=186&c1=sot2755

It would also be worth ensuring that XenApp is on the latest hotfix rollup, available here:

Cheers,

Rob

I have now installed the 044 hotfix (XAE500W2K8X64044), still doesn't work for me. I already had the latest client, 11.2.

I'm using different resolutions on the two monitors on the client system, could that be an issue?

Hi
Check youve allowed enough max memory for your (total) screen estate

Christian Studer   2010-03-09 08:05
That looks okay, the server is running Windows 2008, and the MaxLVBMem value is 32 MB, but I only need about 12 MB according to the calculation at the link you posted.

Ok. So publish notepad (for example), and on the CLIENT set to connect Seamless. All being equall you should NOT have an extra title bar added to the application by the local ICA client (this is the Seamless bit)

I would hope you have the title bar controls from Ultramon embeded in the application title bar. I did find that the sys tray icon didnt necessarily appear.

What are you seeing? can you see UM running as a process (for the user connected via citrix rather than the admin logged on at the console)
Christian Studer   2010-03-10 11:00
I have several processes running under an account Anon000 (remote app, dwm.exe, taskeng.exe, ssonsvr.exe, wfshell.exe), but not UltraMon.exe.

UltraMon is installed for all users on the server. I haven't added it to usrlogon.cmd, but you mentioned that this isn't necessary.
