I currently have a Dell E173FP by the PC running at 1024x728 and a Samsung 46" LCD TV (in a different room) capable of 1920x1080. I have a Nvidia GeForce 6800 with a 6.14 driver driving the Dell monitor and the LCD (I'm using a long DVI cable for the LCD). I want to keep the lower resolution on my Dell monitor, so I'm running the video card in DualView mode. At the present time, I'm able to setup DualView, switch the primary monitor to the LCD, run an application (MediaPortal) and back to the Dell monitor when finished. However, to accomplish this I have to go thru a rather complex set of mouse clickings, etc. Not a very elegant way to say the least!

Can UltraMon allow me to set up DualView and switch primary monitors from the PC location with minimum clicking or key pressings and if yes, how?

Thanks in advance.

UltraMon can't change the multi-monitor mode, but couldn't you just leave it at Dualview permanently?

Changing the primary monitor should work fine, you can do this via right-click on the UltraMon icon in the system tray, then select Set Primary from the menu, or by setting up a display profile.

I am running two LCD monitors + a 1920x1080 Plasma. I found a really cool way to make this easy in Ultramon:

A) Just turn on DualView in NVidia. You never have to change it.

B) I setup "profiles" in Ultramon. (right-click on the ultramon tray, "Disply Profiles" ->"Add New" at the top.)

I have a few of them:

1) Just my regular 2monitors.
2) My regular two monitors with the other one being the primary one. (that's the key: you can flip primary monitors!)
3) My regular monitors + the plasma
4) Just the plasma (with that as the primary monitor of course)

C) I even took it a step further: Right-click Ultramon again, select "Options" and go to the "Hotkeys" tab.

In the top box, select "Add display profile." I added "ALT+1" to be the normal mode, "ALT+2" to be reversed, "ALT+3" etc etc. Now with one keypress in about a second I can move from computer to Plasma TV mode. I absolutely love this feature (and am glad not to touh NVidia's control panel!)

PS - my plasma is also separated from the computer with a long DVI-HDMI cable.

I am using this (I am not endorsing one specific product, but rather possibility of n remote keyboard/mouse that can go room-to-room)

RF Keyboard and mouse

With a setup like this, you can keep the mini-keyboard and mouse in your TV-room. As long as the comp is on, you can hit "ALT+2" and Ultramon will shutoff your first monitor in the computer room and your TV will become your primary monitor and light-up

Again, there are many options to this aside from Gyration; I'm just saying what I use...

Christian, first of all, thanks for such prompt reply.

Could I have it at Dualview permanently? Yes, however, in order for me to do that, I'm having to buying an adapter called "DVI Doctor" from MonoPrice. This will ensure that NVidia will not lose the Samsung's EDID information once I turned it off. I'm using a 50' HDMI cable to connect the NVidia to the Sam, so I'm a bit apprehensive about the loop resistance.

I'm using a StreamZap remote control. I have programmed the red button to launch Ultramon's "SwitchPrimary" script. I've programmed the next (green) button to launch MediaPortal.

When I'm ready to watch pictures, HDD movies or play MP3, I don't have to go to the PC anymore, I just press the red button to switch the LCD to primary, and push the green button to launch MediaPortal from my couch, I can also navigate MediaPortal with the same remote.

I prefer this way because I don't want a desktop to display on the LCD. Once I switch monitors, I get a light blue screen on the LCD an nothing else, at that time I just launch MediaPortal.

Once I finish using MediaPortal, I close it and press the red button to switch NVidia's primary back to the Dell monitor.

This could have probably been handled with some elaborated script, albeit Ultramon makes it such much easier.

Thanks to all for all the help.

Juan.
