The web site says that 3.0.2 (3.0 Beta 2.1) was released way back in January. Is there any chance we're going to see an update any time soon? There are a couple of bugs that are beginning to drive me nuts for which I would love to see fixes.
#1 - Desktop Icons get shuffled at random times. Not just on one screen, but between screens. And sometimes they disappear altogether.
#2 - When I start or stop some applications, one or more screens go blank for a while. This *always* happens when I start or stop Firefox.
I run Ultramon on Win XP Pro SP3, all patches installed, with ATI FireMV 2400 with 4 monitors. The latest ATI driver is installed.

Beta 3 should be ready in the 2nd or 3rd quarter, I don't have a release date yet.
The first issue might be due to automatic icon positioning via UltraMon, to prevent this go to UltraMon Options > General and uncheck 'preserve position of desktop icons'. You can still save/restore icon positions manually.
#2 is most likely not related to UltraMon, sounds more like a display driver issue. To verify this, check if you still have the problem without UltraMon running or installed. So far I haven't seen any problems with Firefox and UltraMon 3.0.2 on XP SP3.

The icon positioning problem: Automatic icon positioning *is* turned off.
After I placed all my icons where I want them, I saved the positions. After they get randomly moved around, I try to use the restore feature, but it doesn't work.
It seems that the icons I have the most trouble with are those for the same application. For example, I have a cmd prompt icon on each of my four monitors, and they are configured to display on the same window. These are the ones that move around the most.
The flashing monitor problem: It doesn't happen with I quit Ultramon. Only when Ultramon is sunning.

Oh! I should say that these icons "for the same" application... the icons themselves have different names. I have CMD(1), CMD(2), CMD(3), and CMD(4), for instance.

1) one user reported a similar problem with icons with similar names, but I haven't seen this myself so far. You could try if renaming the icons makes a difference, for example aCmd, bCmd, etc.
2) for further troubleshooting, please try if disabling window buttons, menu commands or the Smart Taskbar fixes the problem. You can do this via UltraMon Options.

"#1 - Desktop Icons get shuffled at random times. Not just on one screen, but between screens."
I remember reporting this one way back in January. Any progress? And no, unchecking "preserve position of desktop icons" doesn't help.

Unfortunately I don't know what would cause this, also haven't seen this myself so far.
What happens if you restore icon positions via UltraMon menu > Desktop Icons > Restore Position?

"#1 - Desktop Icons get shuffled at random times. Not just on one screen, but between screens."
I'm experiencing a similar issue and can reproduce it virtually at will... System: * Windows Vista Business, SP1. 2 monitors arranged as [1][2].
Icons on desktop (All on monitor 1): * Recycle Bin (Top left corner) * WinZip file "Lines.zip" (Below Recycle Bin) * WinZip file "Builds.zip" (Below Lines.zip) * Folder "Lines" (Right of Lines.zip) * Folder "Builds" (Right of Builds.zip) * WinZip file "Junk.zip" (Below Builds.zip) Layout looks like this:
[RB]
[Z1][F1]
[Z2][F2]
[Z3]
The Problem: With the icons positioned I reboot the PC. When I log back in the icons have moved to the following positions:
[RB]
[Z3][Z1]
[F1]
[Z2]
[F2]
Hopefully you can reproduce the issue with this information. I look forward to the next release. -Pete

Pete, that might be due to the icons with similar names, Builds.zip and Builds for example.
Another user reported the same problem, but I haven't been able to reproduce the issue myself and am not sure what might cause it.

I don't know if its related, but in using VMWare 6.5 beta, when cycling through multiple monitor configurations to get the one desired. UltraMon sometimes seems to repaint the task bar over and over again and then finally settles down. May be unavoidable, but annoying.
Also. The beta trial period just said that it only has 1 day left till expiration. Do we just reinstall the beta or is a new beta needed to continue using UltraMon. Paying for upgrade from 2 to 3 also works for me.

Hi Christian, thanks for the response.
I'm pretty sure you're correct about the issue being something to do with the folder & file names being the same. If I set them to have different names the problem is resolved.
Here's an extra little twist to the problem though... Reboot once and you get the symptoms I described above. Reboot a second time and the icons move again to this:[RB]
[Z3][Z1]
[F1]
[Z2]
[F2]
Reboot a thrid time and the icons move yet again...:[RB]
[Z3][Z1]
[F1]
[Z2]
[F2]
And here's another odd behaviour that seems to point to UltraMon fairly conclusively...
1) I position the icons as per my original post.
2) Open the UltraMon options window and under General > Desktop Icons hit "Save Now".
3) Press "Restore Now". Icons move as follows:[RB]
[Z1][F1]
[Z3][Z2]
[F2]
4) Press "Restore Now". Nothing happens.
5) Press "Save Now" then "Restore Now". Z2 & F2 move down 1.
Repeat step 5 a few more times and the same 2 icons will move down until they reach the bottom of the screen then wrap to the top of the next column. Keep repeating step 5 until your mouse hand hurts and the icons keep on moving until they reach the bottom right corner of monitor 1. At this point they seem to decide that they've moved far enough and stay here until you manually reposition them.

Greg, is this a public beta, and which version of Windows are you using?
Version 2 licenses are valid for all 3.0 betas.
Pete, I haven't seen this myself so far, but I could send you a test app for further troubleshooting, if you are interested please contact me by e-mail at support@realtimesoft.com.
mbarnes, what's the error message you get?

Each time Ultramon crashes, I allow it to auto-send data.
I installed 3.0.3 Beta today and it hasn't crashed yet. In fact, the crashes had already become less frequent. I'm hoping this is a trend!
Haven't had problems with icons moving since I made sure the names were different.
