Windows XP sp2 Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 Quad 3.0 ghz Intel 4 gig ram. HP 8600 Workstation.
Whether I use Ultramon 3.0.2 or WinTidy or whatever, icon layout starts as saved then switches. Fortunately only a few in the first column change. What do I do?

Do you have some icons with the same name? That would be a problem for UltraMon.

Do I have icons with the same name? No, Windows won't let you do that. IAC, all icons have different names. If it matters, there are 146 of them spread out along the top and sides of 2 20" monitors.

Does this happen when the Smart Taskbar gets started? If it is set to be always on top, the additional taskbars will also affect icon positions.
You can have a shortcut with the same name in both the user and public (shared) desktop folder, this will result in two icons with the same name on the desktop.

No, actually, I think it happens even if I turn off UltraMon. I don't use additional taskbars in any case.
