I curently have 3X 24" monitors in a row on the desk and a 17" monitor above the far left 24" one. Is it possible to disable the wallpaper on the 17" screen and keep a streched wallpaper over the 3 24" screens that are in a row. Currently wallpapers look bad as ultramon is trying to strech the immage vertically aswell.

That's not supported directly.
One solution would be to divide the wallpaper into 3 images and assign one of the images to each of the monitors on the bottom row.

thought that would be the case. any ideas how to split the immage into 3?

You should be able to do this with any image editor, for example Photoshop Elements.
