I finally got my dual-head AsusGeforce2 Mx 400 going in true, glorious, independently cloned, twinview! Thanks to the users who posted advice here.

The crux of the matter, was to drop ASus' tools completely - use Detonator drivers, and Nvidia's setup. Also, the latest WHQL (Ha!) approved driver did not work. I used the latest experimental detonator - 22.80 - and it seemed to fix the nv4_disp infinite loop BOSD errors I was continually getting.

Now to use UltraMon to get dual wallpapers and games working. :)Fingers crossed.

Thanks again.

Curiously,

there are now 4 monitors displayed under my device manager - I'm too nervous to remove any of them ;)

1. My primary monitor which is correctly identified by brand and model
2.My secondary monitor which is just listed as "plug and play" monitor. When I tried to update this description with the native drivers for this monitor, I ran into all kinds of troubles. And since it seems to work just as well without them. . .
3."default monitor"
4."default monitor"

Anyone know why this is like that? Anything to worry about in the future?

thanks,

C
