Please, could we get a release to fix bugs in the now 6-month-old Beta???
- My desktop icons are re-arranged at login and at other random times, even though their names are NOT the same and auto-arrangement is turned OFF.
- Each time Ultramon starts, the tool/launch bars on the smart task bars are ALL set to be the tool bar I last switched to.
- Ultramon crashes at random times
- When some applications (Cygwin shell, Thunderbird, etc) launch from desktop icons, one or monitors flash several times. This doesn't happen when Ultramon is shut down.

1) What happens if you restore the icon positions via UltraMon menu > Desktop Icons > Restore Position?
2) What toolbars are you using?
3) What's the error message you get?
4) I can't reproduce this issue, I tested with Thunderbird on 64-bit Vista. I'm also not sure what might cause this on your system.

The icons, for the most part, get restored. But not all of them. On each of 4 monitors I have shortcuts for "Network Neighborhood" and "Control Panel". They all have different names. Some of them do NOT get restored to their saved positions.
| 2) What toolbars are you using?
True Launch Bar
| 3) What's the error message you get?
I don't get one. Ultramon just disappears.

I cannot reproduce it using Thunderbird any more.
I have multiple desktop shortcuts for the Cygwin command window. Each one has a unique name. Some (not all) of them always cause this monitor blanking. I have "Last Used Position" set for these icons.
BTW - It seems that only ONE position is saved for all of these icons with "Last Used Position".

1) Do the icon names begin with the same letters, for example Control Panel 1, Control Panel 2, etc?
This can cause problems on Vista, seems to be a Vista issue. I'm going to look into a workaround for the next release.
2) I've seen this as well with multiple True Launch Bar instances, will look into this for the next release.
3) I'm not sure why you wouldn't at least get the generic crash error message, do you have an error in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Application Log?
4) Last Used Position won't work with console windows, due to UltraMon not being able to hook those types of windows. The other Show options should work fine though.

Yes they do. However, I'm not using Vista. I'm using XP. Are you saying that if I change the names of the icons so they no longer begin with the same characters, I can work around this problem?

OK. At least you can reproduce it!
| 3) I'm not sure why you wouldn't at least get | the generic crash error message, do you have an | error in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > | Event Viewer > Application Log?
It just crashed again, and I got the "Application Error" Dialog:
The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

Okay. SO if I choose merely a monitor, how do I make is so that the windows don't exactly overlap the other windows (sme position and size) launched from the same icon each and every time?
In the mean time, is there ever going to be a second beta, a release candidate, or a final release that will fix bugs?

1) It's worth a try, though so far I've only had reports of this issue from Vista users.
3) If you have a debug button on the crash dialog, please press it the next time you get a crash, you should then be able to save a crash dump via your debugger for further troubleshooting.
4) You could set up multiple shortcuts, UltraMon saves position settings per shortcut, not per application.
The 3rd beta should be ready later this quarter.

I definitely do this. Several times a day sometimes, it seems.

I'll try it. Thanks.
However, I would like to suggest when only only a Monitor is selected, that Ultramon put a little smarts into the window positioning.

Perhaps by the end of September??? Yay!!!

Ultramon is now crashing on me 3 to 5 times a day.
PLEASE consider a bug fix release before worrying about any new features or Vista.

Here it is, mid September, and still no bug fixes.
Ultramon crashes on me several times a day, and a lot of things just don't work.
I'm really regretting I bought this.

I just installed 3.0.3 Beta.
The following has not been fixed:
- Each time Ultramon starts, the tool/launch bars on the smart task bars are ALL set to be the one tool bar that I last switched to.

Didn't make it into 3.0.3, but it's still on the list of things to do.
