I have some weird issues with the default monitor that apps open in. Somehow, after a while most of my apps just started opening on the 'right' monitor, I suppose because Ultramon somehow remembers where a programm last ran. But recently, Firefox always opens on the wrong monitor, and there is no way I can change it back. Right-clicking on the taskbar shortcut and using custom settings has no effect whatsoever. Can anyone help me?

Most applications remember their position, UltraMon will only position them if you have configured custom position settings for the application's shortcut.
UltraMon can only position the first instance of Firefox, maybe that's the issue you're seeing.

Thanks for your answer

Now either I don't understand your answer, or unfortunately you missed what I was saying in my post.
Ultramon* remembers what monitor an app last ran on, WITHOUT using the custom settings. It used to do this for Firefox as well until recently. Now, it always opens on the same monitor, and using those custom settings has no effect whatsoever.
Btw: The custom settings by themselves are not really enough to configure everything you want anyway. For example, using Thunderbird, when I write a new e-mail-message, the message window also opens on whatever monitor I last used it on, regardless of what monitor Thunderbird itself is running on.
(*)unless of course the underlying Matrox software does this, but I doubt that.

Or was the meaning of your post:
"Most apps remember their position" (unabhängig von ultramon) ?

In any case, never mind, I've found the solution myself :-)
If you move a window with the 'move to other monitor' button, it will still open on the old monitor the next time. You actually have to 'pull' the window to the other monitor (drag and drop.)

Most applications do this by themselves, UltraMon only comes into play if you have configured custom position settings for the application.
Those settings only apply to the main application window, UltraMon can't position child windows like an e-mail window for example.

A quick question to your quote above: What good does this do me for an application which I open most of the time by double-clicking on an appropriate file, and not by clicking on the app shortcut and then opening the file?
Because strangely enough, no matter what I do I cannot get Adobe Reader to open on the monitor I want.

UltraMon currently can't position applications which were launched by opening a document.
