Hi;
I have Windows XP_SP2 running on a Pentium4, very nicely. I run my dual monitors(publishing) with UltraMon 3.0.0 on a GeForce 6600 GT card.
Somewhere over the last few weeks my Tray Icon disappeared. Seeing that UltraMon 3.0.2 was out, I uninstalled 3.0.0 and installed 3.0.2. After installation the tray icon was back. I restarted the machine and tray icon again wasn't there.
Ultramon does show up under Commom Startup of Msconfig but there was no registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. So I created a REG_SZ key called Ultramon with the value "C:\Program Files\UltraMon\UltraMon.exe" and restarted the computer but still no tray icon.
Any ideas??

P.S. Without the tray icon how do I start UltraMon control panel so I can save Windows positions. Clicking on the Windows Title bar doesn't give me any kind of UltraMon shell to save the Window position. Could this be because of the Nvidia nView menu manager?

A run registry entry shouldn't be necessary. If you open Task Manager, is UltraMon.exe listed on the Processes tab?

Yes Christian both UltraMon.exe and UltraMonTaskbar.exe are running processes. The change window position buttons supplied by UltraMon appear and function as does the secondary monitor Taskbar.
Everything works but the UltraMon tray icon doesn't appear. So how do I get to the Options screens of UltraMon? None of the programs in C:\Program Files\UltraMon seem to bring up the window that the tray icon brings up.
Also I seem to remember if you right-clicked a window title header the dialog box that would open would present you with a UltaMon window with options to save the window's location.
Now the only thing that appears in the dialog box when right-clicking any window title header are the usual Window buttons and an 'Nview Options' button.
Thanks Dan

Maybe the icon is just hidden, to show all system tray icons click on the little arrow to the left of the system tray.
Also check Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu > Notification Area > Customize to see if the icon was hidden permanently.

I only have about 8 icons on the R.H. side system tray, so the extend arrow doesn't appear.
As for the Taskbar Notification area because I have so few icons I leave the "Hide Inactive Icons" turned off.

Do you get the tray icon if you first terminate UltraMon.exe via Task Manager > Processes, then start it again via the shortcut in Start Menu > Programs?

BRILLIANT!! It's back. So that is two out of three methodologies that get the tray icon to appear. Your method, uninstalling and reinstalling the UltraMon program but unfortunately the third method of appearing on the system tray via normal startup doesn't seem to be working.
Isn't there a method of ordering the startup programs in Windows so UltraMon would start at the top of the list?
Thanks Christian

Sounds like it might be a timing issue, UltraMon probably can't add the icon at the time it gets started.
As a workaround, you could delay UltraMon startup.
To do this, run regedit.exe, go to the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\<version>', double-click on the AutoStartDelay value, select Decimal, then enter the number of seconds by which automatic startup should be delayed. I would try something like 10 or 20 seconds.

Baby Steps- I set the AutoStartDelay to decimal-20, I can confirm that AutoStart is set to 1 and rebooted the machine. Still no tray icon. I own a macro creation software, so maybe I'll write a macro to shutdown the UltraMon.exe process and then restart from the Start Menu as this seems to work flawlessly.
Thanks

To verify that the delay is working correctly, check if the UltraMon taskbars and window buttons only appear after the specified delay.

To clarify, windows buttons and UltraMonTaskbar worked BEFORE adding the delay, the only issue I have currently is the non-appearance of the UltaMon Tray icon. It still doesn't appear with the delay added(20sec.)
Thanks

Hi Christian,
Well I upped the delay to 25 seconds and it appears about 30% of the time.
Not sure what to try next.

I would try a longer delay, looks like this issue is related to when UltraMon gets started.

Here's one for your trivia folder. My unrepairable missing UltraMon tray icon got fixed last night as well as two other misbehaving software issues. I've upgraded to Adobe CS4 Master Collection, when I uninstalled the Adobe CS3 version - all these issues were resolved. Go figure!
