UltraMon is a really useful tool. I was trying it out, and I found some improvements that could be made with the smart taskbar.
It's great that the smart taskbar takes over all tasks that are on that monitor. However, unlike the real taskbar, it isn't resizable, nor are the buttons going to shrink when too many tasks are on the same screen.
Thus, the two requests that would make the Smart Taskbar much more like the real taskbar: * Resizable. Make it wider (for vertical ones) or multi-row (for horizontal placement) * Auto-shrink buttons... when there's more than will fit on the screen. Say if there are 50 windows. The bar placement could be on the top/bottom or left/right. The shrinking should work whichever orientation.
Thanks!

This is already supported, to resize the UltraMon taskbar first unlock the main taskbar, this also unlocks the UltraMon taskbar(s), you can then resize the taskbar with the mouse.
Shrinking the buttons should work fine, but there's a minimum size of about the width of the task icon. Let me know if you see different behavior on your system.

Christian,
Thanks for the quick reply. Indeed, I didn't realize that I can unlock the main task bar and then the UltraMon taskbar unlocks.
I have the smart taskbar on the right side of the screen right now. My resolution is 1280x1024, pretty standard for an LCD panel. I have a load of emails open on that screen.
There are 41 buttons that go straight down, but that's it. If there are 42 windows, you can only see 41 buttons.
The Windows taskbar will align things in two columns when it goes into the threshold. It'll hit a minimum and then add a scrollbar. Is there any plans to have the Smart Taskbar do the same? At least the two-columns part. I'd say the scrollbars are a bit much :)
Thanks!

Will be considered for a future release, probably not before 3.0 final though.

Thank you!
Chris,
Another question about Ultramon. When it is not in autohide, maximizing a window ignores the fact that Ultramon is "docked". Is there something I can do about that?
Say, the Ultramon Taskbar is on the top and no auto-hide. I maximize a window. The window's taskbar is hidden behind Ultramon Taskbar. Usually docked windows are honored by the maximizing rules.
Thanks.

Is the main taskbar set to be always on top ('keep the taskbar on top of other windows' option)?

Yes it is.
Normal windows will maximize next to the docked window (ex. MSN Messenger, MS Taskbar, other docking windows). However, windows on the secondary monitor will maximize right under (or over) the Ultramon taskbar.
Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't know what causes this, but see this thread for a workaround.
