Hello there !

We have just installed a new display system ona quad-core machine to display 10 screens independently via 2 x PCI-E Nvidia 8200GS cards + 3 x PCI FX5200 cards. Using cat5 vga extenders, we have approx. 20-30 feet cat5 cabling up to the screens and these 10 monitors are all connected to independent video ports.

The problem we are experiencing is related to the bandwidth ( we think ) because all 4 ports of the PCI-E send strong enough signal for good display but all other PCI ports have VERY RANDOM effects on the display ( they work randomly - start randomly - random ports ). We have tried everything from connecting VGA switch/amp to the ports to give them extra power but it is worst !. The switches seem to suck even more juice from the vga port ( they dont even work with the pci-e ports or USB2VGA adapters we have tried ).

Finally, we dont really need the displays to have very fast refresh rates, is there any way to reduce as much as possible the bandwidth required for 1024x768 display so we can make sure the cat5/vga cables have enough juice to power all monitors ? It must be a timing question right ? PLEASE HELP US !

Are these LCD monitors? If so, is the refresh set to 60.hz? Does the computer's power supply provide adequate power for all the video cards? Did you try connecting all 10 monitors with regular short cables to make sure it is a distance issue? Did you try high quality coaxial VGA cables (there's a thread here about someone who ran 100" VGA cables)? If they're LCD, can you run via DVI or HDMI instead?
