Hey, First of all thanks for this really great application! The Taskbar alone is worth it. Now to my problem: The Taskbar of my 2nd monitor is not transaprent although I think it should be. I'm not using windowblinds but a slightly modified dll that lets the Windows and taskbar be transparent even though a window is maximized. Just look at Vista Glazz and you get he picture... a href="http://screencast.com/t/XnbHav4E"Screenshot here As you can see, this is not the basic vista skin, but it is still vista (not windows 7).
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not sure what would cause this, what happens if you use the regular Aero style?

It is just the same. The Ultramon taskbar stayes non-transparent even when I'm using the standard aero style. Screenshot
I'll try and undo the always transparent patch from vista glazz in a few minutes. I'll tell you the result as soon as possible.

its the same with an unpatched system. Im running Vista Ultimate SP 1 and ultramon 3.0.3. I do have no problems (as the screenshots indicate) to use the aero features of vista... Its just the Ultramon Taskbar that doesn't really work. I didn't encounter any other problems with ultramon so far.
It's of couse not something that stops me from using it, but especially with the Windows 7 style it looks rather odd.

Are you sure it's not transparent? On the screenshot both the main taskbar and the UltraMon taskbar look the same.
To verify this, move a window below the taskbar, if it is transparent you should still see the window. The desktop wallpaper may not be visible behind the taskbar depending on the image that is used.

The Ultramon taskbar is definitly not transparent. I tried the window trick myself to be 100% sure about that. I have to admit that its not too clear on the screenshot. I should have made a screenshot with the taskbars overlapping a window. But the taskbar was never transparent, even after restarting Ultramon.

Do you have any toolbars added to the UltraMon taskbar?
If a toolbar which doesn't support transparency gets added, UltraMon will disable transparency for the taskbar.

No Toolbars at all are added to the ultramon Taskbar. An exept for the Quicklaunch toolbar, nothing is added to the standard taskbar as well.
If theres something like a log or anything else (list of threads running at the moment etc.) let me know. I am more than willing to help you in order to help me.

Can you run a debug monitor like DebugView? If yes, I could upload a test version of UltraMonTaskbar.exe which sends diagnostic information to the debug monitor.

Of course, just tell me what to do and I'll do it as soon as I can.Its just that I'm living in a different time zone (Germany, UTC +1), so it will probably take some time... Thanks already for the great support!

I have uploaded the test version of UltraMonTaskbar.exe:
32-bit: umtbar_3.0.3_dbg9_x32.zip 64-bit: umtbar_3.0.3_dbg9_x64.zip
To run the test:
1) close UltraMon, go to C:\Program Files\UltraMon and create a backup of UltraMonTaskbar.exe
2) extract the downloaded ZIP file to the UltraMon installation folder and replace the existing UltraMonTaskbar.exe
3) start your debug monitor, for example DebugView
4) start UltraMon. You should see a message starting with DeskTaskBar::SetTheme in the debug monitor
5) once the issue has occurred, save the debug output from the debug monitor to a file and send it to me at support@realtimesoft.com for analysis

is it possible you have a window maximized? I hate to ask, but this will make the taskbar lose its transparency, even if the window is maximized on a different monitor.
Christian, i didn't see it looking through the forums, but I will post it here in case it is relevant. This may be native windows behavior, and i don't remember, but the taskbars (both standard and ultramon) are not just transparent glass over the desktop -- they are drawing the color background from some other level. I will link to a screenshot to make this clear. the following illustrates what i mean. http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=capture2jt8.jpg

The problem was that XP compatibility mode was enabled for UltraMonTaskbar.exe.
As far as I can tell Vista adjusts the wallpaper for some reason when detecting always on top toolbars, but doesn't handle this correctly when there's a monitor to the left of the primary, causing the wrong part of the wallpaper to be displayed behind the toolbar.

in your experience though it works properly with a monitor to the right of the primary? because the screenshot I included is of a monitor to the right of the primary.
|
Christian Studer 2009-01-08 11:27
Yes, so far I've had no problems when there was no monitor to the left of the primary, the correct part of the wallpaper was visible behind each taskbar.

interesting. i will test again to see if I can get it to go away, but i dont have a monitor to the left of the primary, and it happens. so who knows.

btw, looking at the original screenshot posted by that guy, he has a window maximized in it... that forces the taskbar to lose transparency.
