how long has it been doing this?

1: Install Service Pack 3?
Not until my IT department says so.
2: How long has it been going on?
Well, I got the message yesterday that 3.0.4 was available, so, maybe, perhaps a day.
It's actually been happening since I installed Ultramon (3.0.1) back in March.
The latest crash gave data:
The instruction at "0x01680299" referenced memory at "0x00000249".

Just got a repeat of this one:
The instruction at "0x01680299" referenced memory at "0x00000249".

you may want to reinstall, i hardly ever had crashing problems, and the fact that no one else is reporting similar behavior suggests it is an issue on your end. try a clean uninstall/reinstall, and see if it improves. if not, try looking for programs that are causing it, and you may have to disable the buttons on them.

I have never enabled buttons.

You could try what happens if you also disable the menu commands and dragging of maximized windows with the mouse. This way the UltraMon hook won't get installed.

I will try that.
UltraMon *still* crashes time after time after time, all day long.
Give me a debug version and I'll be happy to run it for you.

I disabled all menu commands plus the ability to move maximized windows.
Didn't help a bit. Ultramon crashed within a half hour. And again after quitting and restarting.
I'm not sure if I made this point before... I get the dialogs from Windows saying Ultramon has died, and the Ultramon Taskbar disappears and all the icons get moved to the WIndows Task Bar, but the Ultramon Icon remains in the System Tray. I have to manually QUIT before I can restart.
Also note that I am using only *two* monitors now instead of four. I have a second (Linux) system using the other monitors now.
I am using TrueLaunchBar (2 of them) on the Ultramon Taskbar. I will try removing them.
The applications I use extensive... in fact I have them up almost all the time... are the NetBeans API (a Java GUI Applicaiotn,) Thunderbird, Firefox, Vim, and multiple instances of the Cygwin command prompt (these actually run as standard Windows command prompt windows, don't they?)

"NetBeans API" --> "NetBeans IDE"

Sounds like UltraMonTaskbar.exe (the Smart Taskbar) crashes, not UltraMon.exe.
Did you notice anything which seems to cause the crash (running a specific application, etc)?

Interesting...
Now that you mention it, this seems to happen most often (can't say *always*, just not sure) when I am typing into the NetBeans IDE. This is an application written in Java.

So it's actually Ultramon's Smart Taskbar that's the problem, eh?

Not so easy. It's not NetBeans.
I can have my cursor and focus on a Firefox window in the other monitor, reading along, doing absolutely nothing with the keyboard or mouse, and the Crash Notice from Windows just pops up.
It seems to be completely random.
I would be more than happy to run a debug version if that would help. Is there any memory dump I can send?

By default Windows XP creates a crash dump named user.dmp in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson, but if I remember correctly the crash dump didn't get created on your system.
This could happen if you have a debugger installed, but in that case you should have a debug option on the crash dialog, clicking it will launch your debugger and you should then be able to save a crash dump.
