I thought for sure VS 2008 had the UltraMon buttons before but can't remember. Just upgraded to v3.04.
Can someone confirm that VS 2008 can use the UltraMon buttons?

Works fine for me with 3.0.4 and Visual Studio 2008, I'm also on 64-bit Vista.

Strange, any ideas on why they are missing, or things I can look at to trouble-shoot this problem?

One thing you could do: if you have a debug monitor installed (DebugView or something similar) you could check if you get any error messages from UltraMon when starting Visual Studio.

I've noticed that some programs don't properly get the Ultramon buttons at when ultramon starts up. Sometimes un-maximizing and remaximizing the program(s) has resolved this for me. I don't think I have had this happen nearly as often since moving to 3.0.4 though.

I didn't find anything with the debug, but I did find the problem which doesn't make much sense to me. I have the shortcut to visual studio set to run as administrator. When It is set that way no buttons. When I run visual studio as a normal user then the buttons come back. I tried it with the sql server 2005 management studio and it does the same thing when set to run as administrator. I usually don't run it as administrator so it never had a problem. I tried several other programs and when I run them as administrator, which makes that box pop up to confirm they loose their buttons too. Not sure what to make of this. Try it out and see if it happens on your system and let me know. You don't have to set the shortcut to see this, I just right clicked on an icon for a few programs and selected run as administrator and it did the same thing.
Thanks,

Interesting. I only run VS 2008 as admin, and I retain the buttons. Have you messed with your UAC settings at all? I have tweaked mine a little, but am not really suspecting them to make a big difference with this issue.

Do you have two different user accounts, one a limited user and the other an administrator?
If yes, UltraMon won't be able to extend the applications running as administrator. This only works if you have only a single user account (limited user when running normally, elevated to admin when you select run as administrator).

I upgraded from 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 and I experience the same over here, except it's VS2005 in my case.
I used to have both maximize to desktop and move to other window buttons for VS2005, but not anymore.
I tried re-enabling, but without any results. I also made sure that devenv.exe isn't in the compatibility list (in fact I emptied that list to be sure)

Btw, I'm running VS 2005 under Vista and (have to) run it as Administrator.

One more thing I just noticed: After I load a project VS2005 goes "Not Responding" for a moment and during that time, the Move to other desktop button is displayed.
I can repeat this by just opening another solution (don't have to restart VS2005 or anything).
Just to indicate this is regression: This used to work perfectly for me in 3.0.3 :-)
Let me know if you want me to try things for you. Otherwise I'll move back to 3.0.3 Beta. (Full screen VS2005 is one of the reasons I bought a license in the first place :-P )

Unfortunately I don't know what would cause this, I had this problem with 3.0.3 but no longer with 3.0.4. Let me know if you find out anything else.

I did find out a few more things:
1. Uninstalling / clean reinstalling won't fix this. I verified all files in the program files folder to be of the corrrect version (date in 2009) + 304 has an extra DLL compared to 303.
2. When running Ultramon as Administrator from the UltraMon program folder, VS2005 does get its buttons. (It seems thought that some other apps - like WinRAR - don't get them then)
3. Going back to 303 also "fixes" the problem. This means to me that the problem is indeed related to 304. (Going to 304 again breaks it again).
One last detail I forgot to mention: I run UltraMon x64 (both 303 and 304)
I hope this helps... I'm running 303 for now. It didn't have any problems for me anyway :-) But I'm always happy to help debugging a problem

Do you have this issue with any other app which runs as admin, for example regedit?

I tried regedit and and a backup program that runs as administrator and they worked fine.

Just to verify, I just went back to the 3.0.3 version of UltraMon and Visual Studio now has buttons.
Must be something with Visual Studio 2008 and the changes you made in 3.0.4.
Thanks,
