I have saved the icons on my desktop, but every time I use "restore icons" it places 3 of them in the wrong place - always the same 3 icons and always in the same wrong place. I've tried re-saving it several times, but no luck. It's minor, but strange....
Any ideas?

This could happen if the icons have the same name, and on Vista also if the name begins with the same letters, for example iconA, iconB, etc.
There's no fix for the issue with icons with the same name, you would need to rename the icons. The Vista issue is due to a bug in Vista, a workaround will be considered for a later release.

I'm running XP, and the icons don't have the same names - they aren't even close to anything else. Any other ideas?

I'm not sure what would cause this, does this happen even if you restore icon positions immediately after saving them?

No, if I restore immediately after saving they stay right where I had them. But as soon as I make the other monitor #1, and then switch back and restore the icons, those 3 icons are in the wrong place. Everything else is perfect....

I fixed the issue by moving the rest of my icons on the affected rows to the same rows as the ones it refused to put back in the right place - it saves and restores fine now that I'm doing it the way it wanted me to ;) Not a fix for the actual issue itself, but it works.

Maybe it's related to the Smart Taskbar, when the UltraMon taskbar gets created and you're using always on top for the taskbar, icons may get shifted up a bit.
If you want to test this, you can disable the Smart Taskbar under UltraMon Options > Smart Taskbar.
