How do I install Ultramon to work with this card ?
Do I have to uninstall the buggy Hydravision thing or can I run them side by side ?

Thanks for assistance

UltraMon should work fine with the Radeon 8500, except on Windows 2000: as far as I know the 8500 doesn't have true multi-monitor support on Windows 2000, which causes UltraMon to recognize only a single monitor instead of two.

HydraVision and UltraMon should be able to work together, but I haven't done in-depth testing.

Christian, I have a Nokia 445Xpro and a Samtron 210p running right now under win2k side by side. The difference to the G400 DH i was using before is the multimonitor as one big screen not the launchbar in the primary and no bar in the secondary as it was possible with the G400.

The question still is: uninstall hydravision desktop or let it run ?

I forgot to mention above, i am using win2k.

I installed Ultramon but it only finds one monitor even though two are running right now.
I will restart the machine after uninstalling the hydravision and all other additional ATI software exept the drivers.
For now it seems Ultramon wont work with this card under win2k..

Uupsy i did mention that i am using win2k :)

After restart Ultramon still does not reconize the second monitor ehh uhh no its the primary that is not recognized in the desktop settings.

This is an Ultramon issue i guess as , as i said, in this moment both monitors are displaying.

Display settings shows only one monitor Solution
in the trouble shooting section wont bring me any further as theres no exclamation mark, the driver runs without error.

Make it work and i will buy Ultramon as the toll that is coming with the card is terrible and will not work. Resolutions and frequencies change as they want using the ati tool. Saved settings are changed later, secondary screen gets violet etc sometimes.

So please help me Christian, make me a customer, if Ati can make it run on win2k you can do too.

UltraMon uses the multi-monitor support provided by the operating system, and so is dependent on video cards/drivers that are compliant with the Windows multi-monitor implementation.

One solution would be to upgrade to Windows XP, ATI dualhead cards have true multi-monitor support on Windows XP.

hmmm but I am so happy with win2k. Everything works... well almost, Ultramon does not :(

No other idea ?

Is a cloned diplay in win2k not true multimonitor support ??
Christian Studer   2001-12-12 05:56
True multi-monitor support means that the operating system knows about each monitor you have connected to your system, and shows each monitor in Display Properties.

By default, Windows 2000 recognizes a single-chipset dualhead card as driving only a single large monitor. Implementing true multi-monitor support requires workarounds in the display driver, which Matrox and Appian did implement, but ATI and Nvidia didn't.

ok thanks, i hate the idea to reconfigure my system after upgrading to XP :(
+ its an expensive upgrade..

With respect to your comments that ATI and Nvidia cards don't implement true multi-monitor support in Windows 2K; I am a little confused by your definition. I'm running an dual-athlon(1.2) system. The Tyan mobo(S2462NG)has an onboard Rage XL chipset and I have a Radeon "AIW" 8500 DV in the AGP slot. Windows device manager sees both
devices and Hydravision software allows me to setup the displays primary or secondary properties. Ultramon seems more stable at this though since several errors have been corrected thanks by it. Unfornately I still can't a TV overlay.

Sincerly,

True multimon support is only an issue with dualhead cards (video cards with 2 VGA outputs), standard video cards from ATI and Nvidia are not affected by this.
