Are there any Ultramon command line switches I can add to program startup lines which will start them up on a specific monitor.

I have a 7x monitor array and whilst most programs seem to remember which monitor they were on some do not and it is a little irritating to have to keep moving them each time.

Yes, sort of. Ultramon adds another tab to the shortcut properties page that can be used for this. Just right click on the shortcut and select properties and then the Ultramon tab. Check the "use custom settings" box and pick the monitor and position. If you're starting programs another way -- e.g., BAT file -- you could create a shortcut and launch it instead. There may be a more direct method, but I'm not aware of it.

That's great, I was using 2.7.4 or something, with 3.0.4 that's much more useful.

I actually did more research and found the VB script on the programming page and it worked when manually run, but stick a shortcut in the windows startup folder and it didn't seem to work. It obviously did something because the app would start on a different monitor than it otherwise would, but it did not start as programmed or when manually run.

Returning to the properties tab feature, obviously the install of 3.0.4 scanned and added the tab to quick laun and desktop icons, but not those burried in the start>programs. Anyway to add these there as well?

Should also work fine with shortcuts on the Start menu, but UltraMon can't extend all shortcuts, for example Office shortcuts won't get the UltraMon tabs.

You can still position those applications via UltraMon, but you'll need to create a new shortcut for them manually via UltraMon menu > Shortcuts.
