So far I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, I tested with UltraMon 3.0.4 and PowerDVD 9 on Windows XP SP3.
Do I need to do anything special to cause the problem?

I installed UltraMon on another computer, together witch Cyberlink PowerDVD. I'm getting the same error message. Just to make myself clear, it's the Ultra version of PowerDVD, v.9.0.1501.
I have Windows XP SP3 with all updates. I'm using Kaspersky IS and Ad Muncher.
And no, you don't have to do anything special.

Might be related to a security application, the error you get means that UltraMon failed to get information about the application.
If possible, please try if disabling Kaspersky IS fixes the problem.

Disabling KIS, Windows Defender and Ad Muncher won't help.

If you go to UltraMon Options > Compatibility and click on Configure settings, is PowerDVD listed as a running application?

No, it isn't listed there. I tried to add it, but I will still have this error popping up when launching PowerDVD.
Maybe I did something wrong when adding? But why do I have to add PowerDVD? I didn't have to do that with the old version (v.8). It was working just fine with UltraMon 3.0.3.
(And yes, I have tried v.3.0.3 too, with PowerDVD 9, and I'm getting the same error message.) Now I have 3.0.4.

Maybe the process is protected for secure audio/video content playback, that's just a guess though.
I'll disable the error message in the next release. This will fix the problem, but you won't be able to configure custom settings for the application (like disabling window buttons, etc).

I will wait for the next release then.
Thanks for great support and a great program!

Hi guys! I can confirm the same beavior on my PC. It is not Kaspersky (nor other anti-virus) related problem. UM crashes everytime I start PDVD9 with above mentioned message. Special settings and disabling menu buttons etc doesn't help. Hopefully a new beta release can solve it. Thanks for the support!

I have this issue too. Long time ultramon user. Flawless. This is a fresh format/sp3. Running Eset smart security suite. I just bought powerdvd ultra 9 at microcenter and it simply crashes ultramon, but at the same time powerdvd doesnt even want to start correctly.
I'm going to safely assume this is a powerDVD issue. And I just spent hundreds upgrading to a quadcore, latest ati graphics ,25' monitors the works all so I can be 'hdcp' compliant.
I'm going to uninstall powerdvd, reinstall it..see what happens. If same error, I'm going back to my previous powerdvd.

Ok, I should also say I have 3.0.3 beta installed, not sure how I got one, but perhaps when I wiped and reinstalled I grabbed the first link from web.
This is what solved it for me. The new motherboard I bought has integrated 7.1 audio. The ati card also has integrated audio thru the dvi/hdmi ports (which I dont use)
I had disabled the onboard, since I STILL using my trusty audigy 2, because of the midi/inputs..but the ati high def audio is showing up in device manager. I disabled it in device manager and don't see a crash. I think this is because of all the 'integration' of audio/video in the hdmi ports, not sure.
I think others can try the 2.7 version instead of betas if they must have that integrated hdmi audio, for now I don't use it.
Hope this helps.
