Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Ultramon Beta making 1 of 3 monitors scrambled
Edward   2009-04-06 20:08
I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 w/ Q6600 and 8G RAM, 8800GT and 8600GT vid cards, and I just did a fresh install of Vista and I have 3 problems, 2 w/ the 'old' stable 64 version and one w/ the beta:

BETA 3.0.4:

1)Seemingly at random after a reboot or after coming back from sleep, my left monitor (20"--30"--20"), gets scrambled, making it completely unusable. Sometimes is 'squashes' the screen, sometimes it's lines of rainbows 1-3 pixels wide that flash. Therefore, the BETA is not a viable option for me.

As I did the fresh install of Vista, I was installing one program, rebooting, and then moving onto the next one, so I have troubleshot this problem down to, specifically, Ultramon.

2.7.1.:

1)Having the same layout of monitors (20"---30"---20"), whenever I create a wallpaper (either 1 pic covering all 3 monitors or 1 pic per monitor), Ultramon seems to want to start everything in the middle of the 30" monitor, so that with the 1 pic for all 3 monitors, the left edge of the wallpaper begins in the very middle of my layout and 'wraps around' to the left monitor. IOW, it SHOULD be 2-1-3, but it's 1-3-2 (actually, more like 1.5-3-2-1, if that makes sense).

2)In the taskbars on monitors 2 and 3, the font is different compared to the original taskbar. I have no idea why, nor how to fix that.

Please help, thanks!

Here is a pic of the issue w/ 2.7.1:

Desktop wallpaper issue

Beware, it's a LARGE pic of my entire desktop (4000 x 1600)

found that thread from a LONG time ago and it seems that this isn't a new issue.

That said, I've tried most all of those 'fixes' and none of them helped.

Definitely would like to use this....

You should use the 3.0 beta on Vista, 2.7.1 has several issues as you mentioned.

The issue with 3.0.4 sounds like a display driver issue, make sure you have installed the latest drivers. I'm using a similar system with 3.0.4 myself, and haven't had any display issues (64-bit Vista with 3 monitors and two Nvidia video cards).

Christian, I hate to tell you this, but this is with the latest 2 nvidia drivers...what version are you using?

I'm using 169.96 on my main system, but so far also haven't seen any problems with 182.46 when restarting the system or resuming from standby, this was on a 3-monitor test system, also with 64-bit Vista, video cards are two Nvidia Quadro NVS cards.

Ok, gonna give it another go.

Nvidia just released 182.50 earlier in the week and that's what I'm using.

Will report back. I really want this to work. Thanks, Christian.

Still getting the same scrambled left monitor...

And just got the following error when I reboooted:

Ultramon encountered a fatal error and will exit.

Ver: 3.0.4
OS: 6.0.6001 SP1 x64
Sourcefile: .\wndext.cpp
Line: 757
Return value 0
last error 0

Please help.

The fatal error in WndExt.cpp at line 757 will be fixed in the next release, unfortunately there's no workaround for this.
