When working with Microsoft Office 2007 (be it Word, Excel or Powerpoint), I find it useful to have documents open in different monitors.

However, when running a single process with different documents open, it is not possible to put one document in a window and another in a different window.

Dragging or using the shortcut key doesn't work either - all documents are moved to the other monitor as well.

I can bypass this by opening another instance of the same application, but this creates problems with copy/pasting.

Is there a way for me to achieve this with UltraMon, without resorting to the workaround?

If you don't want to open a second instance you could maximize the main window to the desktop via UltraMon, then un-maximize the document windows so that they can be moved freely within the main window.

Actually, I'm looking for the same thing.

I have my excel spanned across two monitors, but I want to be able to click a button that will maximize one spreadsheet on one monitor, and a button that will maximize the other spreadsheet on the other monitor.

It is doable by freely moving the windows, but it would be nice to have a button that does it automatically.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

You could do this by launching an additional instance of Excel, to do this go to Start Menu > Run, type excel into the box, then hit OK.

Microsoft Word DOES have an option to display each document in a separate window: "Show all windows in the Taskbar". I just verified that you can put the windows on different monitors. I'm running Office 2007 now, but I'm pretty sure it works with 2002 and 2003 as well.

Excel has the same option, and I thought it worked the same way ... but not in my copy of Office 2007 :-(

Well I cannot see where you are having this issue.

Steve says "I can bypass this by opening another instance of the same application, but this creates problems with copy/pasting."

How can this be... I can paste fine between seperate process... there should not be a problem, if so this is a Microsoft issue or an install issue.

Ronny says "I have my excel spanned across two monitors, but I want to be able to click a button that will maximize one spreadsheet on one monitor, and a button that will maximize the other spreadsheet on the other monitor."

This is not possible because this is something done inside the shell of the Office program and has nothing to do with Ultramon or the taskbar itself. If you maximized Excel and sized down the excel files to see both in side the shell, there is no way to maximize one or the other through the taskbar.. this is something you have to do with Excel itself... just as if you were spanning monitors.

You will have to run sperate instances of Excel to have the capability you want.

cwb3106 is right, if you are having trouble seeing the seperate instances because Microsoft loves to group things together thinking that it makes life easier, you have the option to seperate the instances.

I don't understand how you are having this issue. I just opened up Word and Excel and opened a second Word and Excel and had no problem seeing the seperate windows both on screen and in the taskbar. Word opens as document 1 and 2 and excel opens as book 1 and 2.
