Just a stupid question but are there any plans for supporting Windows 7 ??

If so, are there any dates for the first alpha or beta release ?

Kind Regards
Christian Studer   2009-05-02 10:24
I'm going to look into this for the 3.0.6 release, unfortunately I don't have a release date yet.

Out of interest, will you be releasing 3.0.5 inbetween or jumping right on 3.0.6?
Christian Studer   2009-05-06 08:36
No, the next release is 3.0.5.

I'd also be very interested in support for Windows 7. Having used Ultramon for a long time with Windows XP and Vista, I've come to rely on it a little but now it unfortunately doesn't work. I'll keep my eyes peeled for an update :)

Support for Windows 7 is VERY important. Please give it your highest priority. Thank you!

I too have come to rely on UltraMon and have just made the jump to Windows 7 RC. I was very sad today when I found out that I will be ultraless for a while.

Thanks for your great product,

Curt

I see 64-bit Win7 as the leap to 64-bit for the masses. I'm also a long time Ultramon user and am looking forward to Ultramon for Win7.

Ultramon rocks so much you should sell it to MS for huge amounts of cash to be included in windows 7

I tried it, it more or less works on windows 7, but you can't read the text on the second monitor tool bar. Personally I stopped noticing after a bit as you can almost read it, and mainly I guess I look for the icons.

I've also switched to windows 7, a much better windows. But I miss ultramon a lot.

Just had Ultramon installed on my work and liked it a lot. Now at home...with Windows 7. Have to be patient I see.
Ethan   2009-06-15 11:15
Let me just throw my vote in there for a speedy Windows 7 release. I predict a huge migration to Windows 7 and multiple monitors are becoming the norm (especially for the kind of people that would be jumping into Win7 right away), so a solid version of UltraMon that supports Windows 7 would be very popular.

UltraMon is an awesome product that I rely on every day and Windows 7 support will make it even better.

I have now installed Windows 7 RC1 on my primary machine after testing it for 3 weeks on my Lap. I’m loving it but I cannot tell you how much I have come to rely on Ultramon for everyday use. PLEASE HURRY WITH SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS 7 I’m actually willing to pay for an upgrade to my license for windows 7 support that is how much I miss Ultramon.
Please at least an estimated date!
David Jackson   2009-07-01 03:45
I cant tell you how much I need Windows 7 support

all ready to go to Windows 7 RC, its rock solid and the best windows yet but I cant live without ultramon for our 6-8 monitor PCs
LittleScooby   2009-07-19 07:01
Same here, I'm using Windows 7 RC1 which is the best OS MS has released in a long time.

I hope to see Ultramon available for it sometime as well.
Christian Studer   2009-07-19 07:46
3.0.6 has support for Windows 7, you can download it here.

Yep. I just noticed that. Looks like its been out almost a week so far. Perfect timing.

Seems to work great so far!

Like many, I have been using UltraMon for a couple of years now. I just migrated to Windows 7 RTM, and updated my UltraMon to the Beta version 3.0.6. A couple of issues that I have noticed with UltraMon in Windows 7 Enterprise is:

1. That when I mouse over an icon on the taskbar on the main monitor it appears with thumbnails of the windows(and Tabs in I.E.). However, this feature is not available on the UltraMon created taskbar on the secondary monitor.

2. When I have a program, lets say Microsoft Outlook, started, but minimized on the main monitor, I can click Outlook icon on the main monitor and it opens the already running instance. However, if I have Outlook on the secondary monitor, maximized or minimized, and click on the Outlook icon on the main monitor (pinned to the task bar) then a new instance is opened.

These are the only two things that I have noticed, out of the features that I use.

Scotty   2009-08-10 22:39
I didn't include information on my previous post for list item:

1.b The thumbnails that are shown on the mouse hover on the main monitor do not include any windows that are on the secondary monitor.

I have the same issue.
Christian Studer   2009-08-11 07:56
Scotty, support for task preview will be considered for a later release (not before 3.0 final).

There's no fix for the other issue, but if you find this irritating you could unpin Outlook from the main taskbar.

Glad to know taskbar preview is considered for development, I love this feature! :-)

Will the right click features of win 7 for taskbar icons be replicated on the smartbar as well?

Ultramon is the only sensible solution for multiple monitors users! Hope it keeps getting better.
Christian Studer   2009-11-08 06:56
I don't know yet, but I'm certainly going to look into this as well.

with monitor 1 at 1280 x 800 and monitor 2 at 1280 x 1024, monitor 2 has black bars top & bottom.
monitor 2 will fill at 1280 x 800 but images size is to big with monitor 1
Background does not extend from monitor 1 to 2, both seperate.
Please advise, paul

Paul, you can configure wallpaper settings via UltraMon menu > Wallpaper (right-click the UltraMon icon in the system tray to bring up the menu).

For some reason none of my apps get a box on the main taskbar in Windows 7, whether they are pinned or not. The secondary bar works as expected however.
Christian Studer   2009-11-16 09:23
seffyroff, when you get this the next time please run EnumShell and post the log contents here.

Thanks for the log, the problem is that there are two MSTaskSwWClass windows instead of only one. I have uploaded a new version of EnumShell which collects additional information, please run that and post the log again.

I'm a huge fan of this software, specifically for it's wallpaper management capabilities. I've used it on XP, vista, and now 7. It's actually a weird problem I've run into. I remote into my machine at work at times through VNC, which blanks the background. After I leave, it returns the background, but it mashes the entire two monitor picture into a single monitor, and then mirrors that. I've seen ultramon actively edit backgrounds before when changing resolutions, so I'm wondering why it's not doing it with win7.

I think I have found the cause for the problem with apps not getting added to the main taskbar, please install the UltraMonTaskbar.exe test version and check if that fixes the problem for you:

32-bit: umtbar_3.0.7_dbg9_x32.zip
64-bit: umtbar_3.0.7_dbg9_x64.zip

To install the test version, first close UltraMon, then extract the ZIP file to your UltraMon installation folder, C:\Program Files\UltraMon, and replace UltraMonTaskbar.exe with the test version.

James, what happens if you go to UltraMon menu > Wallpaper? Do you get prompted to adjust the wallpaper for the current display configuration?

Apologies for the delay in replying. I had a run of Ultramon behaving itself for a while. It went wrong again this morning, so I had a look here and installed the new debug version of the taskbar you posted. So far so good.
Damien   2010-02-10 03:47
I'm using Windows 7 x64 and Ultramon 3.0.9 RC and have been a proud supporter of Ultramoin for a couple of years now.

however, I have an issue. I run three monitors from an ATI Eyefinity graphics card and have only one taskbar (which is all i'm interested in).

I have set the Ultramon properties for Firefox so the browser always opens on monitor three if I click the icon in the toolbar I have created (much like the old tiny icon taskbar you could have nbear the start button in Xp and Vista).

However, if I use the new Win7 ability to pin Firefox (large icon) to the taskbar and click that to open Forefox, it always opens on Monitor one.

I'm sure the answer is as simple as setting the properties for the Firefox icon pinned to the taskbar, but for the love of god I can't find the option to do so anywhere.

Can anyone help me please?
Christian Studer   2010-02-10 11:08
Damien, you'll need to press SHIFT when right-clicking the pinned app to bring up the regular menu for the shortcut.

Damien   2010-02-11 04:26
Thanks for a quick response Christian

Although that does indeed work, in that it gives me the context menu and I can set the ultramon properties, it only works for the first intance of Firefox. All subsequent instances still open on the third monitor. And it gives me a second icon on the taskbar too, which is odd.

It's very strange because the other apps I have stickied on the taskbar open in the correct windows perfectly all the time.

All help gratfully received.
Christian Studer   2010-02-11 09:43
Unfortunately UltraMon can only position the first instance of Firefox, this is due to how Firefox handles multiple instances, there's no fix for this at the moment.

Damien   2010-02-11 09:45
Ok Christian, thanks for the reply.

Is this something you think can be imlemented in the future please?

Cheers
Christian Studer   2010-02-11 09:49
I'll look into it, not sure though if that's possible.
