Right, I have 2 screens 1 laptop (secondary, extended onto) and 1 monitor (used as primary).I would like to run different resolutions on them.
Both screens are 1920*1200 natively but the laptop's screen is only 17" and text generally comes out to small to read comfortably at this resolution. Therefore I would like to run a lower resolution on the laptop but when I try this I am left with black borders around the desktop. i.e. it does not stretch to fill the actual screen real estate.
Should it be stretching the image or is there a way to achieve this?
Hope this is enough information describing what I want to achieve.
Cheers,
Chris

UltraMon can't help with this, but the software for the video card may have an option to stretch the image when using a lower than native resolution.
Alternatively you could also change the font size (only for both monitors though), the option is under Control Panel > Display on XP and earlier, and Control Panel > Personalization on Vista.

Christian Studer, Thank you for the quick response. It hadn't occurred to me that it was my graphics cards problem. I have since managed to achieve the desired effect using the scaling feature built in. Although it does produce slightly fuzzy text it is definitely a lot better. Cheers,

Yes, the text will remain fuzzy because you are not running at the laptops native resolution. I do this at work as well, so that my laptop can run the same resolution of 1680 x 1050 as my 22 inch monitor. The slight fuzz annoys me, but it is MUCH better than setting a custom DPI in my opinion (which is the other alternative to deal with this issue).
