I have a NVIDIA GEFORCE FX 5200 graphics card with dual VGA outputs. I would like to add a third monitor without having to add another graphics card. Is this possible with a VGA splitter cable?

Not if you want to extend the desktop to the third monitor, with the splitter you'll get the same image on both connected monitors.

One thing you could do is install a USB video card, they're not suited to 3D applications or games though.
