The future however seems to be dual LCDs. Dell has had their 20 inch flat panel 2000FP 1600x1200 native resolution on sale for $1360 (20% off). But what can drive 1600x1200 DVI? The matrox G550 cannot even drive one display over DVI at that resolution. Also, I read that 60Hz is the maximum DVI is spec'ed for at 1600x1200. I think the nvidia GeForce 3 Ti can do it but they sure hide this info. And this begs the question of how to run dual since you have only one AGP slot. I don't have the need or cash for dual right now but still it would be nice some day to have either... - AGP card that can push dual 1600x1200x32 @60hz over DVI - PCI card that can even push one 1600x1200x32 @60hz over DVI and will work with a second card via driver and/or XP support. (Some feel that 60Hz is fine for an LCD, unlike for a CRT)

The problem is current DVI driver chips have a maximum pixel clock of 165Mhz, this is only sufficient for 1600 x 1200 at 60Hz or 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz and not much more. Keep this in mind if you plan on upgrading. LCD’s do not suffer from flicker so the 60Hz is not such a big deal unless you are playing games and want higher FPS. Faster DVI transmitter and receiver chips are being developed if you want to upgrade, however that means replacing both your video card and monitor. With an analog connection you can upgrade either one without the need to replace the other.

Can anyone recommend cards that can drive 1600x1200 DVI?
Several manufacturers OEM the nvidia GeForce3. But I don't think either ASUS version has DVI whatsoever. There is also the visiontek. Their web site lacks information about the existence of a DVI connector or its capacity. I have emailed them for help. Seems like we are on the bleeding edge here. Worries me about driver stability under XP. Guess I'll find out the hard way.
Who else makes cards that use the GeForce3 chipset? Jaton? Lame manual at this location: http://www.jaton.com/newsite/document/3Dforce3/Manual.PDF Appears to have a DVI jack. Manual does not deign to inform us about maximum resolution. How on earth can people write manuals and leave that out?
And... any other chipsets support full on 1600x1200 DVI? Matrox falls short, as has been discovered. Agree, word on the stree is that DVI spec caps out at 1600x1200 and also at 60Hz. There is some dual cable concept if you go that far out beyond that.

The Radeon 8500 comes with a DVI and a VGA output. As ATI is now selling chips as well, some company must release a dual DVI capable card.
