Any time I click the "show desktop" shortcut in my Quick Launch bar, or when I use the WindowsKey + D combination, the UltraMon taskbar on my second monitor disappears (as though it itself was minimized). Is there anything I can do about this?

So far I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, what are your taskbar settings (always on top, autohide, etc)?
Please also post your display configuration, you can copy it from UltraMon menu > About.

My taskbar (the windows default taskbar) is set to Locked and Always on top. The issue doesn't present itself all the time, but I have yet conditions cause the issue.

I have now tested with a similar configuration, but so far haven't seen the issue. If you find anything which seems to cause the problem, let me know and I'll look into it.
One thing you could try is to use UltraMon's Show Desktop instead, this works differently from the regular Show Desktop feature. You can access this feature via right-click on the UltraMon taskbar or the UltraMon icon in the system tray.

Is there a way to create a shortcut to the UltraMon show desktop, so that I can place it in the quick launch bar and remove the default Windows "show desktop" shortcut?

Currently that's not possible, there's also no hotkey yet for this feature, but support for this is planned for a later release.

I managed to resolve thios by changing the Ultramon secondary taskbar settings from "Same as main taskbar" to Always on Top, Locked, No Auto-Hide, position bottom.

Same problem as previous poster using 3.2.2. However changing the Ultramon secondary taskbar settings from "Same as main taskbar" to Always on Top, Locked, No Auto-Hide, position bottom does not fix the problem for me.
Thanks, Dan

I have this problem. It used to happen with Windows 7 and is still happening with windows 8. I decided not to ignore it anymore. So here i am!
Scenario 1 is correct and works. Arrange a situation where multiple programs need to be minimized to see the desktop. On the right hand side of the main task bar near the time is the new show desktop button. Cannot be seen so just click there. Using this method does not hide the ultramon task bars = CORRECT.
Scenario 2: Follow scenario 1 in setting up the situation. Follow these steps to create the classic quick launch bar. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/888-quick-launch-enable-disable.html Now click the show desktop on the newly created quick launch bar. Ultramon taksbars now HIDE.
Hope that is the missing information from this topic.
Workaround The advice given by "User" above, does work for me. I found it needs to be done on all of the ultramon taskbars. I set these options. Locked = Yes Auto Hide = No Always On Top = Yes

Mike, I just fixed a bug which could cause this problem, if you're still using Windows 7 as well, contact me at support@realtimesoft.com if you would like to test this.
On Windows 8 you should use the built-in multi-monitor taskbar instead, UltraMon's Smart Taskbar isn't supported and will cause problems if you upgrade to Windows 8.1.

I am using the smart task bar successfully with Windows 8.1. Occasionally I need to restart ultramon as it appears the smart taskbar freezes up. A minor issue to me.
The main reason I am using smart taskbar over the windows 8.1 taskbar is I have my monitors in quad formation. Since the win8.1 taskbar has a start button on every monitor, my mouse gets jammed on the top right monitor start button when travelling to the bottom left monitor.
I dont have a windows 7 available to test. I can test on win 8.1 if you like. You have my email, feel free to send me the exe or link thereof.
thanks
