Sorry, I didn't mean to change them to desktop buttons. I just meant the ability to make/apply user created icons for the buttons (like how we have the ability to customize the systray icon).

Unfortunately that's no longer supported in version 3, I'll consider adding support for this again in a future release.
If you're familiar with editing application resources, you could change the button icons manually in the UltraMonResButtons.dll file.
