Foren -> UltraMon™ -> Windows 11 Move Button Not Graphically Visible
Quick Death   2022-06-17 18:48
Have a "work program" that used to display excellent in Windows 10 with Ultramon. In Windows 11, the "Move Windows Button" does not display graphically. I am able to click in the area the button is supposed to be and it works. I've tried the "alternative method" and the "force method" neither displays the button. HELP!!!

Is this a Windows 11 bug?

Can you send me a screenshot of the application's title bar to support@realtimesoft.com?

With the application already running, close UltraMon and restart it -- this does allow the button to become visible.

Is there a way to do this initially or is this a Windows 11 issue that has to be fixed in a future version of UltraMon?

I have the same issue on some of the apps I use, either no visible button or very, very feint buttons almost impossible to see.

I think it is related to apps in windows startup that are consequently active before ultramon is, because if I close one of the affected apps and open it manually with ultramon already running the buttons are nice and visible

Ian, are you also using Windows 11?

I am also running Windows 11 and I have been seeing the same issue for a while. Sometimes the move window button is in white, sometimes in black and sometimes not visible at all.

This issue seems to be a repeating theme with Windows 11 and Ultramon.

If you scan down the form subject you will see several more comments about this.

Should all of these be combined into one forum entry?

This can happen due to the rounded window corners, a patch is available for this: dbg_um_3.4.1_rw7.zip

To install it, close UltraMon, then copy the files from the ZIP file to C:\Program Files\UltraMon.

Having the same problem with Chrome, but only in some windows. Installed the patch. The buttons were black again on some Chrome windows for a while, then went back to white. Please advise. (Very glad that UM still works on 11! -- except for this problem...)

Have you noticed anything which causes this? I haven't seen this so far with the patch installed and the latest version of Chrome, 132.0.6834.84.

Thanks very much for looking into this.

On my 2-monitor setup, it happens only on my (15-year-old vertically-rotated) secondary monitor, never on my (9-year-old) primary monitor. On Chrome windows on that secondary monitor, the buttons are almost always white, but occasionally return to black when the window is minimized then re-maximized.

However, on Word windows, on both monitors, the buttons disappear completely when switching either way, but reappear every time after being minimized.

On PowerPoint and Excel windows, the buttons *never* appear!

I have now tested with the secondary monitor in portait orientation, and also with Excel 2019, but still haven't seen the issue.

Are you sure you have the correct patched files installed? To check for this, go to the folder C:\Program Files\UltraMon and check the modified date for the following files: RTSUltraMonHook.dll, RTSUltraMonHookX32.dll, UltraMon.exe. This should be Aug 12, 2022. You can see the modified date by opening properties for the file.

Sorry! It seems I had one of those patched but not the other. Everything is fine now (except Adobe Acrobat, which doesn't show any buttons...). Thank you again for the great support, and for keeping UM going for so long. Such a good program!
Christian Studer   2025-02-05 13:21
Glad to hear that! To fix the issue with Acrobat, go to UltraMon Options > Compatibility, then configure settings for Acrobat and check the option 'use alternative method to add window buttons'. You may also need to set the custom button spacing option to move the UltraMon buttons to the left.
Phil   2025-02-06 16:38
That's fixed it. Thanks!

I didn't know about the custom button spacing, so I've been working around overlapping buttons for years! Now everything truly works perfectly. Thanks again.
