Having a problem getting a computer with an AGP card supporting the primary monitor to accept a PCI card for a second monitor. Basic question, as stated, is: Does choice of PCI slot sometimes matter for PCI video cards? In other words, are some computers finicky about which PCI slot is used for a PCI video card?

absolutely, the slot # can make a difference...particularly if there are multiple pci cards in the machine.

each pci slot has a designated IRQ # even though this can fine-tinued in the bios for many machines, it can be a definite problem.

Thanks for your reply. Indeed, this was the problem. I removed the sound card from the top PCI slot and put it in the second slot down, then installed the PCI video card in the top slot. It worked.
