Near the top left of my main screen, there is a "corner" that looks like this: ________|
It doesn't contain anything, and I can't grab it with the mouse or otherwise move it. It does not show up on the mirror screen.
When I installed UltraMon, I did not select the option for whatever the special screen menu is called.
How can I get rid of this little thingie?

Is it a black rectangle, or a white rectangle with a shadowed border?

It's a greyish line, horizontal then up at the right, probably a shadow.Right now there are two of them on my screen, both full left about 1/3 of the way down from the top, one below the other and ending a bit to the right:

I've seen something similar when hovering over start menu items with mirroring enabled on the tablet.
I'll look into this for the next release.
