Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Vista: enabling second monitor causes mouse to go crazy
unknownsoldierX   2007-04-19 05:56
I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit with the latest ATI drivers and CCC installed. Ultramon 3.0-b1.

Every time I enable the secondary display my mouse cursor goes crazy for about 5 seconds. The cursor flies all over the screen and occasionally it will click on things. Usually it will just select an icon on the desktop, but one time it actually copied the My Documents folder to the start menu!

So far, it hasn't done anything destructive. It is really annoying, though.

Most likely that's not related to UltraMon, please check if you still have the problem without UltraMon running.

One other thing you could check: does the problem go away if you enable the secondary monitor via Display Properties instead of UltraMon menu > Enable Secondary?

With UltraMon running, I enabled the secondary display using the desktop Display properties and it doesn't do it. The ATI Control Center enables the display without issue, as well.

Another user had a similar issue with an earlier version of UltraMon, seems to be related to UltraMon trying to restore the position of desktop toolbars.

I'll see if I can do something about this in the next release, unfortunately I've never been able to reproduce the issue myself.

Enabling the monitor via UltraMon menu > Display Settings also shouldn't cause the problem.

I have this same problem using Ultramon on Windows XP. If I click on 'Enable Secondary' the mouse pointer goes wild and starts opening links on my desktop. I have to fight to restart the computer; after that everything is alright. Enabling the secondary monitor from Display Properties doesn't seem to do this. Thanks for that suggestion.

This issue was fixed in 3.0 Beta 2.

The issue is not fixed, but its time it was m8.

Vista has been out a while now and SP1 is here.

I cant use your product I have paid for as of issues I have spoke of before that are not just happening to me.

I know things take time and dont like the nasty posts some make, but its time we got more builds out to try as you claim this is your full time job (according to another thread).

I have no idea how its only recently this APP was even updated to a new build for Vista in all that time.

Unfortunately I don't know how this could still happen, shouldn't be possible anymore. I've never been able to reproduce this issue myself though.

For further troubleshooting, please do the following when this happens the next time: run regedit.exe, right-click the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon Components' and select Export from the menu, then send me the .reg file to support@realtimesoft.com.
